Senior DevOps and Middleware Platform Engineer

Position Summary The Senior DevOps and Middleware Platform Engineer is responsible for the architecture, engineering, administration, automation, security, and operational support of enterprise middleware and DevOps platforms. The role covers traditional middleware, web servers, container platforms, CI/CD services, infrastructure automation, certificate management, monitoring, and application deployment services across on-premises and public-cloud environments.

The position provides end-to-end technical ownership of middleware services, including platform design, installation, configuration, qualification, patching, performance optimization, high availability, disaster recovery, vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, and production support. The engineer will collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, security functions, service providers, and technology vendors to deliver reliable, secure, scalable, and compliant platform services in accordance with Novartis standards.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of relevant experience in DevOps engineering, middleware administration, platform engineering, application infrastructure, or production operations.
- Hands-on experience with several supported middleware technologies, including WebLogic, JBoss, Apache or JBCS HTTPD, Tomcat, IIS, and Nginx.
- Practical experience with Jenkins, Ansible, Git or Bitbucket, and JFrog Artifactory or Nexus.
- Experience developing automation using Python and shell scripting.
- Working experience with Docker and Kubernetes application deployments.
- Experience installing, configuring, patching, upgrading,



and troubleshooting enterprise middleware platforms.
- Strong understanding of application deployment, web protocols, TLS, DNS, reverse proxies, load balancing, and network connectivity.
- Experience with certificate signing requests, server certificates, keystores, trust stores, and certificate renewal processes.
- Experience with monitoring, log analysis, performance tuning, capacity management, and production support.
- Experience supporting high-availability and disaster-recovery configurations.
- Experience working within formal incident, problem, change, release, and service-management processes.
- Robust analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to participate in on-call, planned maintenance, and major incident support when required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting middleware services in regulated or validated enterprise environments.
- Experience performing platform qualification and preparing installation qualification documentation and evidence.
- Experience supporting applications and middleware hosted on public-cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience integrating CI/CD pipelines with security scanning, testing, artifact repositories, and change-management systems.
- Experience with DigiCert or another enterprise certificate lifecycle-management platform.
- Knowledge of API gateways, application security controls, reverse proxies, and web application firewalls.
- Experience with platform migration, modernization, technology currency, and end-of-life remediation programs.
- Familiarity with observability platforms, centralized logging, application performance monitoring, and automated health checks.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and enterprise service-management processes.
- Relevant certifications in DevOps, Kubernetes, Red Hat, Oracle WebLogic, Microsoft, cloud platforms, Ansible, or information security.
