Job Objective
- Responsible for the design and development of new automotive components.
- Lead and support complete design activities from concept development through product launch.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complete design activities including:
- Concept design
- Process design
- Tool design
- Gauge design
- Product launch
- Prepare 2D/3D designs, engineering drawings, BOMs and control plans.
- Perform initial product feasibility reviews and design calculations.
- Prepare and release product drawings and tool drawings after final approval.
- Apply GD&T;, material standards and customer-specific requirements.
- Support tool manufacturing activities and coordinate with relevant teams.
- Review and recommend design or drawing corrections.
- Raise Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) wherever required.
- Communicate drawing clarifications with Manufacturing and Quality teams.
- Identify and implement design and process improvements related to functionality, cost and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Evaluate the impact of engineering changes on tooling, process, cost and quality.
- Participate actively in APQP, PPAP, DFMEA and PFMEA activities.
- Coordinate production trial runs,
process validation and testing to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Support smooth SOP and production ramp-up.
- Escalate design risks, feasibility concerns and data gaps to the appropriate authority.
- Update engineering documents after approval.
- Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition as per 5S standards.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong command of CAD tools.
- Proficiency in CAD software; AutoCAD and Creo preferred.
- Good knowledge of tool manufacturing and tool material selection.
- Knowledge of GD&T; and engineering drawing standards.
- Understanding of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA and PFMEA.
- Ability to perform design calculations and feasibility studies.
- Understanding of automotive component design and development.
- Valuable knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing.
