Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Senior C++ Engineer to join the team building our next-generation embedded writer platform. The selected candidate will be responsible for porting core application logic from a legacy real-time embedded platform to a modern embedded Linux system, and for building the regression-testing infrastructure that proves the ported software behaves identically to the original. This role requires strong expertise in modern C++ development, cross-platform porting, protocol and file-format design, and test-harness engineering, applied to software that produces a legally significant data record and therefore cannot tolerate correctness regressions.
Key Responsibilities
- Port core application and domain logic from a legacy RTOS-based C/C++ codebase to a Linux-based embedded platform, preserving exact functional behavior.
- Design and build an automated regression harness that replays historical input data through both the legacy and ported implementations and verifies bit-exact output equivalence; integrate this harness into continuous integration so every change is verified automatically.
- Reconcile divergent copies of shared logic that evolved independently on different platforms into a single, verified, canonical implementation.
- Design and implement serialization and communication protocol logic (framing, checksums, versioning) ensuring wire-level compatibility with existing external client software.
- Rework legacy file- and storage-management logic that is tightly coupled to a proprietary real-time operating system into a clean implementation on a standard Linux filesystem, while preserving on-disk data formats and data-safety guarantees (no data loss on crash or power loss).
- Port cryptography and data-integrity logic, and extend it to support a tamper-evident, cryptographically signed data journal.
- Port audio codec/compression logic into a new platform-appropriate audio pipeline.
- Design clean internal interfaces (abstraction seams) that isolate ported business logic from platform-specific concerns, without building a full compatibility-emulation layer.
- Collaborate with platform, firmware, QA, and program leadership to align on process boundaries, data-safety guarantees, and real-time performance budgets.
- Participate in design and code review, with particular attention to correctness on the legally-sensitive data-capture path.
- Utilize modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate large-scale code translation and test generation, while applying independent engineering judgment to verify correctness rather than trusting generated output at face value.
- Support the product from early architecture through production release
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of professional C++ software development experience, including production/shipping systems.
- Robust experience with modern C++ (C++14/17/20).
- Demonstrated experience porting or migrating a large existing codebase across platforms or operating systems (e.g., RTOS to Linux, or similar cross-platform migration).
- Experience designing or implementing serialization formats or communication protocols (framing, checksums, versioning, backward compatibility).
- Solid understanding of concurrent/multithreaded programming.
- Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems in an embedded or application context.
- Robust Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and software design skills.
- A test-first, verification-driven approach to correctness, with experience building or operating automated regression or golden-master style test harnesses.
- Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Demonstrated, hands-on effectiveness with AI-assisted software engineering tools (agentic coding assistants, AI-based code review), with clear judgment about when to trust generated output and when it requires independent verification.
- Experience using Git for version control and standard issue-tracking tools for project/task management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with embedded cryptography, data integrity, or licensing/security subsystems.
- Experience with audio codec integration or digital signal processing basics.
- Experience with hash-chained, append-only, or tamper-evident log/journal data structures.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux storage semantics (journaling filesystems, write-through/O_SYNC data-safety patterns, flash/eMMC wear considerations).
- Prior experience in a regulated, safety-critical, or legal/records-integrity software domain.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to software architecture decisions.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
