We're Hiring under Ascensus Season 2: Autonomous Mobile Robotics Intern
Altior Studios is building a 2-wheel differential drive Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) designed for complex and dynamic indoor environments – powered by an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano and running a proprietary hardware-accelerated ROS 2 visual perception and navigation pipeline. Think "high-precision warehouse logistics grade autonomy on low-power edge hardware." We are looking for an intern to help us tune and stress-test our Visual SLAM (VSLAM) and spatial awareness stack using NVIDIA Isaac ROS,all of which will be deployed over Jetson Orin Nano.
About the core tech stack:
The hardware and software ecosystem you’d be working on centres around NVIDIA's cutting-edge edge AI and robotics stack. It enables hardware-accelerated computer vision and spatial intelligence directly on low-power embedded GPUs using NITROS (NVIDIA Isaac Transport for ROS). Thus, it is must for the intern to have a good understanding and a prior hands-on experience on the following :
- Core Hardware: NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit
- Primary Framework: ROS 2 Humble and Isaac ROS
- VSLAM Engine : Altior’s proprietary Visual SLAM algorithm
- NVIDIA Stack: Isaac ROS, it’s Common Utilities and NITROS , cuVSLAM, Docker & NVIDIA Container Toolkit, Headless Operations (SSH, terminal commands, and remote workflows), nvpmodel, jetson_clocks and the overall power management.
- ROS 2 Core Fundamentals : ROS 2 Architecture, Executors & Multithreading, Transforms (tf trees), EKF and analogous filters, drivers and launch files, Frame Drift and Drift analysis and Debugging Tools like ros2 topic hz, and tf2_monitor.
- Navigation Stack: Behavior Trees, Costmaps & Occupancy Grids, Planners & Controllers.
What you'll work on:
- Deploy and fine-tune Altior’s proprietary Visual SLAM on the Jetson Orin Nano platform
- Calibrate stereo vision/depth camera and IMU sensor setups to improve visual odometry accuracy
- Fuse visual odometry with wheel encoders using localization tools and/or EKF filters
- Integrate Altior’s VSLAM outputs into the ROS 2 Nav2 framework for real-time costmap generation and local planning
- Build containerized deployment environments (Docker/JetPack) to optimize GPU/CPU execution latency
- Deploy, test and validate loop-closure and relocalization accuracy under real-world lighting and dynamic conditions
What we're looking for:
- Technical Must-Have:
- Strong hands-on experience with ROS 2 (Humble or newer) and working knowledge of Linux/Ubuntu
- Proficiency with Visual SLAM (VSLAM) principles, camera calibration, and sensor fusion
- Familiarity with the NVIDIA Jetson ecosystem (JetPack, CUDA runtime, and Isaac ROS packages)
- Solid understanding of differential drive robot kinematics and its physics based navigation principles
- Proficiency in Python 3 or C++ for ROS 2 node development
- Professional Background:
- Degree : Engineering Bachelors in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or any other streams relevant to robotics
- Work exp : 1+ years
Engagement Details:
- Duration: 2 months
- Mode: In office, at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar Incubation Cell
- Expected joining date: 7th September 2026
- Stipend: ₹ 10,000/month
- Future Prospectus: Opportunities for full time paid internships and/or employment (on-site) may be presented upon evaluation
