- Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business.
- Collaborate with inventory control and sales to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and then maintaining those levels throughout the year.
- Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
- Manage the companys day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure that all purchasing agents are meeting their personal performance standards.
- Conduct research to ascertain the best materials and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality.
- Visit existing suppliers and build and maintain valuable relationships with them.
- Create a database of all the suppliers.
- Prepare and negotiate the best rate contract for material and check its progress.
- Check the quality of material provided.
- Forecast the material requirement to meet the business needs.
- Keep a constant check on stock levels to maximize business efficiency.
- Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers,
relevant internal departments and customers.
- Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities.
- Develop an organizations purchasing strategy.
- Produce reports and statistics using computer software.
- Attend meetings and trade conferences.
- Update the regular MIS and generate the monthly progress reports.
- Perform other duties as per the requirement of the organization.
