Role Summary:
As a specialized designer for our socks division, you will be the key link between the creative office and the manufacturing floor. With 34 years of experience, you will focus on turning design concepts into technical realities, ensuring every pair of socks (Mens, Women’s, and Kids) meets our standards for fit, durability, and trend-relevance.Primary Responsibilities1.
Design
Execution & Technical Drawing
- CAD Development: Create precise, "knit-ready" technical drawings and CADs, specifying needle counts (144n, 168n, 200n) and stitch structures.
- Collection Planning: Design seasonal ranges across categories—from basic everyday crews and invisible liners to performance athletic socks and children’s novelty patterns.
- Artwork Preparation: Prepare jacquard patterns and print files, ensuring motifs translate clearly across different sizes.
2. Material & Trend Research
- Yarn Selection: Source and test various yarn blends (Combed Cotton, Bamboo, Coolmax, Recycled Polyester) based on the specific function of the sock.
- Trend Adaptation: Research global color and pattern trends and adapt them into commercially successful designs that fit our machinery capabilities.
- Sourcing: Maintain a library of yarns, elastics, and trims to speed up the sampling process.
3.
Plant
Liaison & Sampling
- Machine Coordination: Work side-by-side with machine technicians to translate design files into programmed knits, troubleshooting tension or "bleeding" issues on the spot.
- Sample Approval: Manage the end-to-end sampling process,
ensuring the "First Fit" and "Golden Sample" match the tech pack exactly.
- Quality Consistency: Ensure design integrity is maintained across the Men’s, Women’s, and Kids' ranges, specifically focusing on size grading and stretch recovery.
4.
Product
Development & Fit
- Fit Testing: Lead wear-tests to evaluate arch support, heel-stay, and cuff tension, making adjustments to the "tech-pack" as needed.
- Packaging Specs: Design and specify technical details for packaging, such as J-hooks, riders, and heat-transfer labels.
- Cost Management: Design within target price points by optimizing yarn usage and stitch complexity without compromising quality.
Skills Required
- Technical Knitting Knowledge: Solid understanding of circular knitting machines and the relationship between yarn gauge and needle count.
- Design Software: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Familiarity with SDS-ONE (Shima Seiki) or similar knit software is a significant advantage.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot a 1mm deviation in a pattern or a slight color shift in a yarn dye-lot.
- Cooperative Mindset: Comfort working in a fast-paced plant environment and communicating effectively with production staff.
Typical Background
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, or Textile Technology.
- Experience: 3–4 years of hands-on experience in the apparel industry, specifically in Socks, Hosiery, or Seamless Knitwear.
- Plant Exposure: Previous experience working directly within or closely with a manufacturing facility is preferred.
