Migration Specialist JES2 to JES3

Lead JES2-to-JES3 migration strategy, assessment and implementation across z/OS environments.

Analyze existing JES2 configuration, MAS, initiators, job classes, output classes and checkpoints.

Design target JES3 complex, configuration and job-flow architecture.

Map JES2 JOBCLASS, MSGCLASS, SYSOUT classes, initiators and scheduling policies to JES3.

Analyze JES2 exits, JES3 exits, installation exits and automation dependencies.

Review JCL, procedures and applications for JES2-specific dependencies.

Plan migration of JES2 spool, checkpoint, SPOOL volumes and JES datasets as applicable.

Design JES3 initialization parameters, JES3IN, initialization streams and device configuration.

Validate printer, punch, reader, network and SYSOUT routing requirements.

Assess RACF, security, SDSF and System Automation integration impacts.

Develop migration, IPL, fallback and rollback procedures.





Execute parallel testing and workload validation before production cutover.

Validate job submission, scheduling, execution, output processing and restart/recovery.

Coordinate with z/OS, Storage, Network, Security, Application and Operations teams.

Troubleshoot JES3 initialization, spool, initiator, device and job-processing issues.

Perform performance, capacity and availability assessment of the JES3 setting.

Update operational procedures, monitoring, automation and disaster-recovery documentation.

Ensure migration minimizes production downtime and business impact.

Provide technical leadership, knowledge transfer and post-migration support.

Required: z/OS, JES2/JES3, JCL, SDSF, JES exits, Spool, RACF, automation and IPL experience. Role & responsibilities
