Qualification

- ITI – Fitter / Mechanical Trade from a recognized ITI.
- Relevant technical certification/training will be an added advantage.

Experience

- 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in a steel plant, scrap recycling plant.

- Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of shredder, conveyors, feeders, screens, magnets, baler and other mechanical equipment.
- Attend mechanical breakdowns promptly and restore equipment operation safely.
- Inspect and maintain bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, rollers, pulleys, chains, sprockets and drive systems.
- Carry out dismantling, repair, replacement and reassembly of mechanical components.
- Check alignment, lubrication, tightening and condition of rotating equipment.
- Assist in installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment.
- Carry out routine inspection and maintenance of the shredder machine, rotor, knives/hammers, bearings, housing and drive arrangement.
- Assist in changing/replacing shredder blades, wear plates and other wear components.
- Identify abnormal vibration, noise, heating and other indications of equipment malfunction.
- Support the maintenance team during major shutdown and overhaul activities.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, fittings and hydraulic power packs.
- Identify and rectify hydraulic oil leakage and damaged hoses/fittings.
- Assist in maintenance of pneumatic systems, where applicable.
- Maintain proper housekeeping around hydraulic and mechanical systems.




- Maintain conveyor belts, idlers, rollers, pulleys, scrapers and take-up arrangements.
- Carry out belt tracking, belt replacement/jointing and adjustment activities.
- Inspect and maintain chain conveyors, feeders and other material handling systems.
- Check conveyor guards and other safety arrangements before equipment operation.
- Execute preventive maintenance activities as per the approved maintenance schedule.
- Record equipment observations, defects and maintenance activities.
- Identify potential failures during routine inspection and report them to the supervisor.
- Ensure proper lubrication of equipment as per the lubrication schedule.
- Assist in maintaining minimum required critical spares and consumables.
- Carry out basic fabrication, gas cutting, grinding and fitting work as required.
- Repair or modify mechanical structures, guards, chutes, platforms and supports.
- Perform drilling, cutting, grinding and other fitting activities using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Follow all plant safety rules, SOPs and permit-to-work requirements.
- Strictly follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures before carrying out maintenance.
- Use appropriate PPE during all maintenance activities.
- Ensure proper isolation of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical energy before starting work.
- Maintain secure working conditions at the worksite and immediately report unsafe conditions.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety training and emergency preparedness activities.
