Mechanical Estimator The Takeoff AI (thetakeoff.ai) | Bengaluru, Karnataka, Indiar
We build AI-powered takeoff software for industrial piping and mechanical contractors. Our product reads P&IDs; and isometric drawings, extracts quantities, and gives estimators a verifiable material takeoff in a fraction of the time it takes to do by hand.
We're hiring a mechanical estimator to work alongside our engineering team in Texas.
What you'd be doing
You'll estimate real projects, validate AI-generated takeoffs against manual counts, flag where the software gets it wrong, and help us close the gap. You'll also support live demos and pilots with prospective customers, walking their drawings through our system and explaining the output in language estimators trust.
This is a building role. You'll shape how the product handles piping specs, fittings logic, and labor factoring, not from a whiteboard, but from actual bid packages.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years estimating mechanical or piping scope (industrial,
petrochem, refinery, or process work preferred)
- Comfortable reading P&IDs;, isometrics, line lists, and piping specs (ASME B31.3, B16.5 familiarity is a plus)
- Experience pricing with MCAA labor units or similar mechanical contractor pricing methods
- Willingness to work with software teams: explaining how you estimate, why you trust certain numbers, and where shortcuts live
Nice to have
- Experience with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar takeoff tools
- Familiarity with EPC bid processes and turnaround/shutdown work
- ASPE certification or equivalent
What we offer
- Early-stage equity prospect
- A product team that actually listens to estimators (our CEO spent months on demo calls with chief estimators before writing a line of code)
- The chance to build the estimation tool you wish existed
