Junior Payment Dev/Test Engineer
IntelloCore | Engineering – Payment Assurance preferred Location: Noida/Chennai (Hybrid)
Experience: 1–3 years
Employment type: Full-time
About the role
Payments fail in ways ordinary software doesn't. A single mis-set bit in an ISO 8583 bitmap, a response code that maps to the wrong outcome, a settlement file that doesn't reconcile — and real money is stuck.
We're hiring a Junior Payment Dev/Test Engineer to help build the validation that catches those failures before they reach production. You'll work alongside Payments SMEs, developers and product teams on payment flows, payment switches, and the automation frameworks that validate them.
This is not a traditional QA execution role. You'll build across payment domain + development + automation + validation + integration + performance — and grow into genuine payments engineering expertise.
What you'll do
Learn the payments domain properly
- End-to-end card transaction processing: authorisation, clearing and settlement
- Issuing and acquiring flows
- POS, ATM, EFTPOS, payment gateway and payment switch architecture
- Work directly with senior Payments SMEs on complex real-world scenarios
Work with payment messages
- Build working knowledge of ISO 8583 — MTI, bitmaps and data elements
- Create, modify and validate request/response messages
- Perform field-level validation, message comparison, and mapping/transformation checks
- Validate response codes and transaction outcomes
- Develop a foundation in ISO 20022 message families and flows
Build and validate APIs
- Design and execute REST API validation scenarios
- Validate JSON and XML payloads, HTTP status codes and business responses
- Positive and negative path coverage
- Postman collections, automated with Newman or equivalent
- Build reusable API validation utilities
Automate
- Develop and maintain Playwright automation
- Execute automated regression suites
- Contribute to CI/CD-based automated validation
Investigate failures
- Analyse failed transactions and pinpoint the exact point of failure
- Work through application logs and transaction traces
- Reproduce, document and retest defects with clear evidence
- Partner with developers through to resolution
Document what you learn
- Validation scenarios, conditions and expected results
- Execution reports and investigation findings
- Transaction flow diagrams and reusable payment knowledge assets
What we're looking for
Must have
- 1–3 years in software development, QA automation or payment technology
- Hands-on dev/test exposure to payments — ISO 8583, ISO 20022, payment switches or REST APIs
- Playwright
- Working knowledge of Python
- REST API validation; JSON / XML; Postman
- Basic SQL and Git
- Solid grounding in the SDLC and software testing principles
- Robust debugging and analytical instincts
Nice to have
- Card issuing, merchant acquiring, EMV, payment gateways
- JMeter, Newman
- Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI
- Maven, Docker
You'll do well here if you
- Investigate problems logically rather than guessing
- Have real attention to detail — in payments, the detail is the job
- Can read a technical specification and work from it
- Take ownership of what you build
- Genuinely want to learn how money moves
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates with relevant development, automation or payments experience preferred. What the first two months look like
By the end of your first 1–2 months, you should be able to:
- Walk through an end-to-end card payment transaction
- Read and interpret ISO 8583 messages
- Create and execute payment validation scenarios
- Write Playwright automation scripts and run automated regression suites
- Analyse a failed transaction from logs and traces to root cause
- Write defect reports someone else can act on
- Run basic performance tests
- Independently own a small payment validation module
