Overview We are looking for a detail-oriented Gimbal Hardware Engineer with robust expertise in electromechanical integration, hardware design, and ruggedized system development. The ideal candidate will focus on the physical and electrical hardware aspects of gimbal systems, ensuring reliability in harsh environmental conditions. This role is suited for a hands-on hardware specialist who excels in connectors, harnessing, sealing, thermal management, and system-level integration of gimbal subsystems.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Integration
- Design and develop robust hardware architecture for 2-axis/3-axis gimbal systems.
- Integrate motors, sensors, cameras, PCBs, and wiring subsystems into compact and reliable assemblies.
- Ensure proper mechanical-electrical interfacing, grounding, and shielding practices.
Connectors, Harness & Wiring
1. Select and validate connectors (circular, micro-D, board-to-board, rugged connectors) based on application requirements.
2. Design and develop wiring harnesses, including routing, strain relief, and serviceability.
3. Ensure compliance with communication protocol harness standards for: o UART, RS232, RS485 o Ethernet / IP-based systems o Video signal transmission (HDMI, LVDS, MIPI, etc.)
4. Perform signal integrity and EMI/EMC considerations in harness design.
Environmental Protection & Sealing
1. Design systems to meet IP ratings (IP65/IP67/IP68) for dust and water resistance.
2. Select and implement gaskets, O-rings, sealing compounds, and potting materials.
3. Ensure proper waterproofing and environmental sealing across enclosures, connectors, and cable interfaces.
4. Collaborate on shock, vibration,
and environmental robustness requirements.
Thermal Management
1. Analyze and implement thermal solutions including:
1. Heatsinks.
2. Thermal pads and interface materials.
3. Passive cooling strategies
1. Ensure optimal heat dissipation for motors, electronics, and embedded systems.
Motor & Hardware Component Selection
1. Select appropriate gimbal motors (BLDC / torque motors) based on mechanical and electrical constraints.
2. Evaluate hardware components such as fasteners, brackets, housings, and mounting interfaces.
3. Understand mechanical load paths and ensure structural integrity.
Testing & Validation
1. Conduct hardware validation tests, including:
1. Waterproofing/IP tests
2. Vibration and shock testing
3. Thermal performance validation
1. Troubleshoot hardware-related issues across connectors, wiring, and packaging.
2. Support field testing and failure analysis.
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical / Electronics Engineering or related field.
2. 3+ years of hands-on experience in hardware design for rugged electromechanical systems.
3. Strong understanding of:
Connectors and harness design IP ratings and sealing techniques
Hardware integration in compact systems
Proficiency in CAD tools and mechanical design fundamentals.
Ability to interpret technical datasheets and standards.
Preferred Skills (Good to Have)
1. Experience in UAV payloads, gimbals, or defense/aerospace hardware systems.
2. Knowledge of EMI/EMC design considerations.
3. Familiarity with industrial/military connector standards (MIL-spec).
4. Experience with thermal simulation tools.
5. Exposure to manufacturing processes and vendor coordination.
