Summary The Analyst, S&T; Derivatives Operations, is responsible for the reconciliation and operational support of Supply & Trading exchange-traded derivatives across global Oil, Gas, and Power markets. This role ensures the accurate processing and reconciliation of trading activity while supporting Margin and Collateral Management functions, including the validation and execution of margin calls and collateral movements in accordance with established WFS policies and procedures. The position plays a key role in mitigating operational risk, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting effective interactions with counterparties and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Margining & Collateral Management:
- Review daily statements and margin call requests from WFS clearing brokers and exchanges to ensure WFS collateral is posted as required and AR/AP coordination is completed the same day.
- Monitor CloudMargin daily to initiate margin calls, process collateral returns, and coordinate WFS collateral postings to counterparties.
- If there is a payable invoice, ensure payment instructions are given to the Accounts Payable team.
- If there is a receivable invoice, ensure receipt instructions are given to the Accounts Receivable team and that funds have been received by end of next day.
- Process monthly cash collateral interest invoices in CloudMargin and coordinate AR/AP activities through completion.
- Provide MTM counterparty reports in accordance with agreed reporting frequency.
- Distribute daily margining and collateral reports to internal stakeholders.
- Report to the accounting team monthly margining and collateral figures and assist in resolving any discrepancies.
Exchange Reconciliations & Trade Support:
- Provide support to traders executing futures on the exchange. May include coordination with our brokers, middle office, or trading teams.
- Complete daily reconciliations of exchange-cleared futures, swaps, and options to ensure all trades are accurately recorded in the ETRM system. Validate trades at end of day, recheck trades and positions each morning, lock validated trades in the system, and promptly escalate and remediate any reconciliation discrepancies.
- Monitor and report to the trading teams the expiry of futures that physically settle and need to be flattened positionally to avoid physical delivery.
- Reconcile all FX trades between external and internal system data. FX Corporate Balance Sheet transactions must also be processed and marked for settlement in the financial system; this is completed on a daily basis with a higher volume at month and quarter ends.
- Reconcile and lock all intercompany derivatives trades in the ETRM system. Report to IT and/or the trading team any trade entry issues requiring IT or trader assistance to resolve.
- Work with Accounting to investigate and resolve any month end reconciliation and reporting issues.
- Effectively manage multiple competing priorities with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring trade economics and discrepancies are fully investigated and resolved, while proactively managing client expectations and potential fail risks.
- Liaise with counterparties,
and internal teams such as Front and Middle Office to resolve transaction discrepancies and/or settlement failures in a timely manner.
- Maintain shared Outlook mailbox, by responding timely with accurate information to both external and internal customers.
- Communicate efficiently with business partners, team members, and management.
Qualifications:
- Degree level or possess an equivalent level qualification.
- 3-4 years experience in the energy sector and in the commodity trading business, ideally related to exchange traded products and reconciliations.
- Experience understanding financial markets and derivative products is essential.
- Margining or Risk experience is preferable.
- International experience is preferable.
Skills:
- Robust Excel skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including communication with Front Office staff and external counterparties.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook, with a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.
