Responsible for supporting and maintaining effective financial crime prevention, risk management, governance, and compliance activities across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery and maintenance of the Group Financial Crime Framework.
- Conduct and review financial crime risk assessments, providing appropriate advice, guidance, and challenge.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of financial crime controls and recommend improvements where weaknesses are identified.
- Identify emerging financial crime risks and regulatory developments.
- Support assurance activities and deep-dive assessments of financial crime controls.
- Provide independent review, challenge, and guidance to first-line business teams.
- Monitor adherence to Financial Crime Policies, Standards, and Procedures.
- Review policy exceptions, control weaknesses, and remediation plans.
- Support the development of risk appetite metrics, KRIs, and management information reporting.
- Review sanctions escalations and support investigations into potential sanctions matches.
- Provide subject matter expertise across AML, Sanctions, Fraud, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, and Prevention of Facilitation of Tax Evasion.
- Advise stakeholders on financial crime policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support business projects, acquisitions, bids, and supplier onboarding activities.
- Prepare reports for senior leadership, risk committees, and governance forums.
- Monitor actions arising from assessments, audits, reviews, and investigations.
- Develop financial crime awareness training and learning materials.
- Promote a strong compliance culture throughout the organisation.
- Support enhancements to financial crime systems, processes, and controls.
- Assist with regulatory change implementation and framework development initiatives.
Requirements
- Professional Financial Crime qualification preferred (e.g., ACAMS, ICA or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of UK Financial Crime legislation, including Money Laundering Regulations, Criminal Finances Act, Fraud Act, and Bribery Act.
- Experience developing and implementing financial crime policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of financial crime risk management principles, methodologies, and controls.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, control reviews, and governance activities.
- Experience working with UK corporate businesses and stakeholders.
- Solid stakeholder management, communication, and reporting skills.
This is not a traditional KYC or AML operations role. The position is more focused on Financial Crime Risk & Governance activities from a second-line perspective. The individual will be responsible for supporting financial crime risk assessments, reviewing the effectiveness of financial crime controls, providing oversight and challenge to business teams, supporting policy and framework implementation, reviewing sanctions-related matters, monitoring regulatory developments, and preparing governance reporting for senior stakeholders. The role also involves working with risk assessments, control reviews, KRIs, policy adherence, assurance activities, remediation tracking, and providing subject matter expertise on AML, Sanctions, Fraud, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, and Prevention of Facilitation of Tax Evasion
