Job Title: General Manager – Garment Manufacturing Unit
Location: Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana
Department: Manufacturing & Operations
Reports to: Managing Director / Founder
Role Purpose The General Manager – Manufacturing will be responsible for the complete management and performance of the garment manufacturing unit. The person will oversee the entire production cycle—from order planning and raw-material procurement to cutting, stitching, finishing, quality control, packing and dispatch.
The role requires a solid factory leader who can ensure timely delivery, consistent quality, cost control, workforce productivity and smooth coordination between the factory, management, clients and vendors.
Key Responsibilities1. Overall Factory Management
- Take complete responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the manufacturing unit.
- Manage production, quality, merchandising, procurement, stores, maintenance, administration and dispatch.
- Ensure that all departments work according to the production plan and delivery schedule.
- Establish disciplined systems, reporting structures and accountability across the factory.
- Provide regular production, cost, quality and delivery updates to management.
2. Production Planning and Control
- Prepare production plans based on confirmed orders, delivery dates and available capacity.
- Allocate orders across cutting, stitching, embroidery, printing, finishing and packing departments.
- Monitor daily production against targets and take corrective action wherever delays occur.
- Balance production lines and optimise manpower and machine utilisation.
- Identify production bottlenecks and resolve them before they affect delivery dates.
- Manage urgent, small-quantity and customised orders without disrupting regular production.
3. Quality Assurance
- Ensure garments meet approved samples, specifications, measurements, workmanship and quality standards.
- Establish quality checkpoints at fabric inspection, cutting, stitching, finishing and final inspection stages.
- Control alteration, rejection, repair and rework levels.
- Investigate recurring quality problems and implement preventive measures.
- Ensure that only properly inspected and approved garments are packed and dispatched.
4. Cost and Efficiency Management
- Control fabric consumption, trims, labour costs, overtime, wastage and production overheads.
- Monitor actual production costs against approved costing.
- Improve line efficiency, worker productivity and garment output.
- Reduce avoidable wastage, excess consumption, rework and production losses.
- Recommend process improvements,
machinery requirements and cost-saving measures.
5. Raw Materials, Procurement and Inventory
- Coordinate the timely procurement of fabrics, trims, accessories, packaging and other production materials.
- Ensure materials are ordered according to approved specifications and production requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and prevent shortages, overstocking, unauthorised usage and material leakage.
- Maintain proper records for fabric issuance, consumption, balance stock and rejected materials.
- Develop and manage reliable vendors, job workers and subcontractors.
6. Workforce Management
- Lead production managers, supervisors, masters, tailors, checkers, helpers and support staff.
- Plan manpower requirements according to the production workload.
- Set clear daily and weekly targets for each department and production line.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, productivity, overtime and worker performance.
- Recruit, train and retain skilled factory personnel.
- Build a professional working environment based on accountability, efficiency and respect.
7. Coordination with Merchandising and Management
- Review order details, technical specifications, approved samples and delivery commitments before production begins.
- Coordinate with the design and merchandising teams regarding samples, approvals, materials and client changes.
- Immediately communicate any issue that may affect quality, costing or delivery.
- Ensure that no unapproved changes are made to fabrics, trims, construction or measurements.
- Participate in order review and production planning meetings.
8. Machinery and Factory Maintenance
- Ensure all machinery and equipment remain operational and properly maintained.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules.
- Minimise production downtime caused by machine breakdowns.
- Maintain factory cleanliness, safety and organised workflow.
- Ensure compliance with fire, electrical, labour, health and workplace-safety requirements.
9. Packing and Dispatch
- Ensure correct quantities, size ratios, labelling, folding, packing and carton markings.
- Coordinate final inspections and shipment readiness.
- Ensure dispatches are completed accurately and within committed timelines.
- Prevent shortages, incorrect packing and shipment discrepancies.
Decision-Making Authority The General Manager will have the authority to:
- Allocate factory manpower and production capacity.
- Set and revise departmental production targets.
- Approve overtime within authorised limits.
- Recommend hiring, performance action or replacement of factory personnel.
- Stop production where serious quality or specification issues are identified.
- Recommend machinery purchases, repairs and operational improvements.
- Evaluate and recommend vendors and job workers.
Major financial commitments, pricing decisions and changes to approved client specifications will require management approval.
Key Performance Indicators
Performance will be measured against:
- On-time production and delivery
- Production efficiency and output
- First-time-right quality percentage
- Rejection, alteration and rework levels
- Fabric and trim wastage
- Actual cost versus approved costing
- Labour productivity and overtime control
- Machine utilisation and downtime
- Inventory accuracy
- Factory discipline and staff retention
- Compliance with safety and labour requirements
- Accuracy of packing and dispatch
Candidate Requirements
- Graduate or diploma holder in Garment Manufacturing, Textile Technology, Industrial Engineering, Production Management or a related field.
- Minimum 12–15 years of experience in garment manufacturing.
- At least 5 years in a Factory Head, General Manager, Production Head or similar leadership position.
- Strong knowledge of woven garments, uniforms, shirts, trousers, jackets and customised apparel production.
- Experience managing the complete manufacturing process from fabric receipt to final dispatch.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, production planning, quality control, costing and fabric consumption.
- Ability to manage both bulk and small customised production orders.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, negotiation and team-management skills.
- Comfortable using Excel, ERP or production-management systems.
- Fluency in Hindi and working proficiency in English.
Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be hands-on, disciplined and commercially aware. The person should be capable of taking complete ownership of the factory without requiring constant supervision. They must be honest, systematic and highly focused on quality, costs and delivery commitments.
Experience in manufacturing premium uniforms, hospitality garments, formalwear or export-quality apparel will be strongly preferred.
Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹90,000.00 per month
