About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team supporting the design, development, integration, testing, commissioning, and technical support of industrial diesel, natural gas, and propane generator systems and compressor packages.
The successful candidate will have strong practical knowledge of electrical power systems and industrial equipment, with the ability to take projects from the initial electrical design stage through manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and field support.
This is a remote position, but the role will require regular communication with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, customers, service technicians, and project teams. Occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or project locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering:
- Design and develop electrical systems for industrial generator and compressor packages.
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, control circuit diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Select and specify electrical components including:
- Circuit breakers
- Contactors and relays
- Automatic transfer switches (ATS)
- Distribution panels
- Transformers
- Batteries and battery chargers
- Control panels
- Sensors and instrumentation
- Grounding and bonding equipment
- Motor starters and VFDs
- Perform electrical load calculations, voltage-drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and conductor sizing.
- Develop electrical bill of materials (BOMs) and component specifications.
- Review generator ratings,
voltage configurations, phase requirements, protection systems, and control requirements.
- Ensure designs meet applicable electrical codes, standards, and customer specifications.
Manufacturing & Production Support:
- Work closely with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure electrical designs can be efficiently and safely manufactured.
- Review electrical drawings and BOMs prior to production.
- Assist production personnel with electrical installation and wiring questions.
- Investigate and resolve design-related manufacturing issues.
- Review completed equipment and assist with electrical quality-control inspections.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and equipment testing.
Field Service & Commissioning Support:
- Provide remote technical support to field technicians, contractors, electricians, and customers.
- Assist with generator startup, commissioning, load-bank testing, and troubleshooting.
- Review field reports, test results, photographs, drawings, and equipment data to diagnose issues.
- Provide technical recommendations for electrical modifications and corrective actions.
- Participate in customer and contractor meetings as required.
- Travel to customer sites when required for commissioning,
troubleshooting, or technical support.
Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain:
- Electrical drawings
- Wiring diagrams
- Single-line diagrams
- Control schematics
- BOMs
- Technical specifications
- Testing procedures
- Commissioning documentation
- Operation and maintenance documentation
- Review supplier documentation and technical submittals.
- Maintain engineering records and revision-controlled documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- 510 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in industrial power generation, generators, compressors, switchgear, or related equipment.
- Strong understanding of three-phase electrical power systems.
- Experience with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical protection, controls, grounding, and distribution systems.
- Experience reading and developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Experience selecting electrical components and developing electrical BOMs.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, control, and instrumentation problems.
- Robust understanding of applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Experience working with industrial equipment and manufacturing environments.
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.
