POSITION SUMMARY

Mechanical Systems Design Engineer specializing in Specialty/Process Gas Distribution Systems and PHE plumbing systems, and Fire Protection Infrastructure (Fire Hydrants, Sprinklers, and Suppression). This role is responsible for designing safe, compliant, and productive gas manifold/piping networks and PHE systems, and site-wide fire hydrant/water supply networks, primarily tailored for industrial, Life Sciences, chemical, and commercial facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Process & Specialty Gas Distribution Systems

Network Design

●Design high-purity, bulk, and specialty gas distribution networks (Compressed Air, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon, Helium, Hydrogen, CO₂,



and toxic/flammable lab gases).

Equipment Sizing & Selection

● Size bulk storage tanks, vaporizers, pressure-regulating stations, gas manifolds, changeover panels, and pipe routing.

Safety Integration

● Incorporate gas leak detection, auto-shutoff valves, pressure relief valves (PRVs), and exhaust/ventilation controls compliant with hazardous gas codes.

2. Fire Hydrant & Water-Based Suppression Systems

Hydrant & Yard Piping Design

●Design external fire hydrant networks, ring mains, post indicator valves (PIVs), fire department connections (FDC), and internal landing valves/hose reels.

Hydraulic Calculations

● Perform hydraulic flow and pressure-drop calculations using software tools to determine fire pump capacities, head requirements, and pipe sizing.

Fire Pump House Design

● Design fire pump rooms, including electric/diesel fire pumps, jockey pumps, controllers, and suction/discharge headers.

Code Compliance

● Ensure fire protection systems conform strictly to NFPA 14 (Standpipe and Hose Systems), NFPA 20 (Fire Pumps), NFPA 24 (Private Fire Service Mains), and local building/fire codes.

3. PHE Systems

Water & Utility System Design

● Design and engineer potable water and treated water distribution systems.

● Design hot and cold-water supply systems.

● Prepare hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, pump selection,



and system layouts.

● Design utility networks including compressed air, steam condensate, and industrial drainage systems.

Drainage & Wastewater Management

● Design sanitary, process, laboratory, and storm-water drainage systems.

● Develop wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal systems.

● Coordinate Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) requirements.

● Ensure compliance with environmental and local regulatory standards.

4. Cross-Discipline Coordination & Documentation

● Prepare Basis of Design (BOD), P&IDs;, isometric piping diagrams, utility consumption schedules, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).

● Coordinate spatial routing of high-pressure gas lines and plumbing systems, underground/above-ground fire mains using 2D CAD and 3D BIM workflows (Revit).

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education

● Bachelor's Degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

● Minimum 7–10 years of experience in mechanical utilities design, with a dual focus on gas piping distribution, plumbing systems, and fire hydrant/suppression systems.

Software Proficiency

● Drafting & Modelling: AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks.

● Hydraulic & Gas Calculations: Pipe-Flo, HYTRAN, Water CAD, Elite Fire/Hydra CAD, or equivalent hydraulic design software.

Code Knowledge

● Gas Systems: NFPA 55 (Compressed Gases), NFPA 45 (Lab Safety), CGA (Compressed Gas Association) standards, and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping).

● Fire Protection: NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 24, and local fire authority norms.

● PHE Systems: ASME, NBCS, Good Engineering Practice, and local norms.
