- Assist the Nursing Superintendent in planning, organizing, and managing nursing services across all hospital departments.
- Supervise and coordinate nursing activities in inpatient units, ICUs, emergency, operation theatres, outpatient services, and other clinical areas.
- Ensure adequate deployment of nursing staff based on patient acuity, workload, and departmental requirements.
- Monitor nursing staffing schedules, duty rosters, shift allocations, leave, attendance, and manpower utilization.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing protocols, infection-control practices, and patient-safety standards.
- Conduct regular rounds to assess nursing care, patient needs, documentation, cleanliness, and overall unit functioning.
- Monitor nursing documentation, medication administration, handover procedures, vital signs monitoring, and other clinical practices.
- Support implementation and monitoring of quality indicators, nursing audits, clinical audits, and patient-safety initiatives.
- Identify gaps in nursing services and implement corrective and preventive actions in coordination with relevant departments.
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, induction, training, competency assessment, and performance evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Coordinate continuing nursing education, in-service training, workshops, and skill-development programs.
- Handle nursing staff grievances,
discipline, counselling, and performance-related issues in accordance with hospital policies.
- Ensure appropriate management and reporting of adverse events, medication errors, falls, needle-stick injuries, and other patient-safety incidents.
- Coordinate with doctors, hospital administration, HR, infection control, quality, pharmacy, laboratory, and other departments to ensure smooth patient care.
- Ensure proper availability, utilization, maintenance, and inventory control of nursing equipment and supplies.
- Assist in preparing departmental budgets, manpower requirements, equipment requirements, and operational plans.
- Ensure preparedness for accreditation and regulatory requirements, such as NABH and other applicable standards.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, disaster management, code/emergency response, and hospital safety programs.
- Review patient and staff feedback and initiate appropriate service-improvement measures.
- Prepare and submit nursing-related reports, statistics, performance indicators, and management updates.
- Act as the Nursing Superintendent in their absence, when delegated.
- Promote qualified conduct, ethical nursing practice, teamwork, and a patient-centered culture.
