Data Extraction Specialist

We are seeking a Data Extraction Specialist with strong technical and research skills to collect, extract, clean, verify, and organize data from multiple sources.

This is not a traditional data-entry position. We are looking for someone who can write and run their own programs, build automated data-extraction workflows, work with APIs, process large datasets, and find efficient technical solutions for collecting data.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable receiving a data requirement and independently determining the best way to obtain, process, validate, and deliver that data.

Responsibilities

Collect and extract data from publicly available, licensed, and authorized data sources.

Write and run custom Python scripts for data extraction and processing.

Build automated workflows to reduce repetitive manual data collection.

Extract structured information from websites and other permitted online sources.

Work with REST APIs and other data integrations.

Build and maintain extraction workflows using tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, or similar technologies.

Process large CSV, Excel, JSON, and database datasets.

Clean, standardize, categorize, merge, and format collected data.

Detect and remove duplicate, incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated records.

Perform data validation and quality assurance before final delivery.

Research missing information and manually verify records when automation is insufficient.

Troubleshoot broken scripts, API errors, website structure changes, and extraction failures.

Optimize scripts and workflows for speed, accuracy, and scalability.





Maintain organized documentation of data sources, scripts, processes, and outputs.

Follow applicable data-source terms, privacy requirements, and company data-handling policies.

Requirements

Technical Skills

Strong working knowledge of Python.

Hands-on experience with web data extraction/scraping.

Experience building and running your own extraction scripts.

Experience working with REST APIs, HTTP requests, authentication, pagination, and JSON.

Experience with at least one browser/extraction framework such as:

Playwright

Selenium

Scrapy

BeautifulSoup

Strong understanding of HTML, CSS selectors, XPath, and web page structures.

Experience using Pandas or similar data-processing libraries.

Working knowledge of SQL and databases.

Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.

Experience handling CSV, JSON, XLSX, and other structured datasets.

Experience with data cleaning, normalization, deduplication, matching, and validation.

Ability to work efficiently with large datasets.

What We’re Looking For

We want someone who is resourceful and technically independent.

If you are given a requirement for 50,000+ records, you should be able to determine whether the most effective solution is an API, custom Python program, extraction workflow, database query, automation tool, manual research, or a combination of these approaches.

You should not depend entirely on pre-built or no-code tools. You must be comfortable writing code, debugging problems, researching technical solutions, and building your own workflows when necessary.

Accuracy is equally important. Delivering a large dataset quickly is not useful if the information is incomplete, duplicated, incorrectly structured, or unreliable.

Important: This role combines programming, automation, data extraction, research, data processing, and quality control. Candidates whose experience is limited to basic copy/paste data entry or spreadsheet entry will not be a fit.
