: Communications, Marketing, & Development Manager
About Ultimate Impact
Ultimate Impact is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2016, that empowers youth from underrepresented communities through the sport of ultimate Frisbee. We use the team game as a framework to help young people ages 6 to 18 build confidence, communication, and conflict-resolution skills — through direct-service programs, in-person mentorship, and community development in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mission: Empower youth from underrepresented communities to develop confidence, teamwork,
and accountability through the sport and community of ultimate.
About The Opportunity
Ultimate Impact is growing its team and impact across San Francisco, Oakland, and beyond. The
Communications, Marketing, & Development Manager is a full-time, exempt position based in the
San Francisco Bay Area, reporting to the Executive Director.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who is an excellent writer and communicator, enjoys telling compelling stories, and also wants to work directly with young people in the communities we serve. The Manager will play an important role in communicating Ultimate Impact's work, securing resources to support our programs, and staying directly connected to our mission through hands-on coaching. This is a hybrid role that combines remote work with in-person coaching across local communities.
We are looking for someone who is creative, hard-working, highly organized,
team-oriented, and excited about using their skills to help Ultimate Impact grow.
Responsibilities
Marketing, Communications & Donor Engagement - Communications are a core engine of
Ultimate Impact's growth—both in fundraising and in the families, partners, educators, and community members we reach. This role develops the audiences, stories, and communications that expand Ultimate Impact's visibility, strengthen relationships, and directly support fundraising and organizational growth.
- Develop and manage a communications strategy that grows Ultimate Impact's audience,
visibility, and base of supporters.
- Create compelling stories about Ultimate Impact's youth, coaches, programs, and
community partnerships,
working closely with program staff to capture stories, photos, testimonials, and other content.
- Write and produce organizational communications, including newsletters, impact updates,
donor communications, year-end appeals, website content, social media, and other external communications.
- Support donor and funder cultivation through targeted communications that strengthen
relationships, demonstrate impact, and contribute to Ultimate Impact's fundraising goals.

- Build relationships with Bay Area television, print, radio, and digital media and
proactively identify opportunities for earned media coverage of Ultimate Impact's work and impact.
- Grow engagement within the ultimate community—including alumni, adult
leagues, clubs, and tournaments—and the broader community, creating stronger pipelines for donors, volunteers, partners, and ambassadors.
- Manage Ultimate Impact's website and social media presence and maintain a consistent
organizational voice, messaging, and brand across external communications.
- Develop marketing and communications materials that support fundraising campaigns,
events, programs, partnerships, and community outreach.
- Track communications and audience-engagement performance and use results to
strengthen strategy, increase reach, and support fundraising growth.
- Engage Ultimate Impact's Board of Directors as a strategic resource and sounding board for
communications campaigns, brand development, audience growth, and community connections. Grant Writing & Research
- Research and identify foundation, corporate, government, and other institutional funding
opportunities that align with Ultimate Impact's mission and programs.
- Write compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, applications, and other funding requests.
- Manage grant reporting requirements and prepare high-quality narrative reports for funders.
- Maintain and manage Ultimate Impact's grant calendar, including proposal, reporting, and
renewal deadlines.
- Work with the Executive Director and program staff to gather program information,
outcomes, participant stories, budgets, and other information needed for proposals and reports.
- Research prospective funders and help develop strategies for expanding Ultimate Impact's
institutional funding portfolio.
- Maintain accurate records of grant submissions, awards, reporting requirements, and funder
communications.
- Develop a strong understanding of Ultimate Impact's programs and impact in order to
effectively communicate our work to current and prospective funders.
Community Coaching - The coaching component gives this role firsthand experience with youth,
families, school partners, and educators.
- Coach Ultimate Impact programs at school and community sites in San Francisco and/or
Oakland.
- Create safe, inclusive, fun, and engaging environments where young people feel a strong
sense of belonging.

- Teach ultimate skills while using the sport as a vehicle for developing
confidence, teamwork, accountability, communication, and leadership.
- Build positive and consistent relationships with youth participants, families,
school staff, and community partners.
- Implement Ultimate Impact's established curriculum and youth-development approach.
- Support practices, workshops, tournaments, special events, and other program activities as
needed.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for young people participating in Ultimate Impact
programs.
- Use firsthand experience with programs and participants to strengthen the authenticity and
effectiveness of Ultimate Impact's grant writing, storytelling, and communications.
What You Bring
- At least three years of relevant experience in grant writing, nonprofit development,
communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; able to craft persuasive, compelling
content for different audiences, with strong attention to detail.
- Experience researching and writing foundation, corporate, and/or government grant
proposals.
- Experience with nonprofit marketing and communications (social media, email, and website
content).
- Comfort moving between very different kinds of work, from a grant proposal to a donor
newsletter to coaching youth.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
independently, without losing sight of the organization's broader goals.
- A talent for building relationships across audiences (youth, families, colleagues, funders,
donors, and community partners).
- Experience working directly with youth, particularly in sports, education, after-school, or
youth-development settings.
- A growth mindset and genuine enthusiasm for helping a small, growing organization build
and scale.
- A commitment to Ultimate Impact's mission and the communities we serve.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting individual giving, donor stewardship, or fundraising appeals.
- Familiarity with CRM, grant-management, email-marketing, or website and social-media
platforms.
- Fluency in Spanish or another language spoken in the communities we serve.
- Experience partnering with a board or volunteer leaders.
