Wind turbine blade technology A Commissioning and Site Engineer manages the safe and effective transition of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) from the construction phase to full commercial operation. This hybrid role involves site supervision, technical testing, and ensuring all turbines meet rigid Vestas quality and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards before client handover.
Core Responsibilities
- Testing & Commissioning: Execute complete WTG startup sequences, including high-voltage and low-voltage functional tests, Grid compliance checks, and SCADA communication verifications.
- Site Operations & Supervision: Oversee pre-assembly, mechanical completion, and major component operations. Liaise with installation crews, QA/QC teams, and subcontractors to ensure seamless workflow.
- Safety & Compliance (HSE): Ensure strict adherence to Vestas safety protocols. Verify all Permits to Work, lifting plans,
and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) checks are in place before task execution.
- Troubleshooting & Deviation Management: Identify, register, and troubleshoot electrical or mechanical deviations. Manage and document non-conformances (NCRs) and ensure proper root-cause analysis.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide daily progress reports to the Deputy Commissioning Manager or Site Manager. Ensure accurate "job book" documentation for final project handover.
- Team Leadership: Act as a technical role model for technicians. Assist with on-site training and onboarding of new personnel.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-technical Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 4 to 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 2 to 3 years specifically in Wind Turbine Generators or power generation commissioning.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, hydraulic systems, and heavy-equipment lifting procedures.
- Competencies: Strong leadership and communication abilities, systematic problem-solving skills, and a high-level safety mindset.
