About ParisarParisar is a Pune-based civil society organisation that has been working on environmental awareness, education and action since the early 1980s. Over the last two decades, our work has focused strongly on sustainable urban transport, recognising that the way people move shapes the quality of life in cities. Today, our work spans urban mobility, air quality, road safety, urban planning and design, plastic reduction and reuse, and heritage conservation.

Through research, policy and public engagement, and stakeholder collaboration, Parisar works towards more liveable, equitable and healthy cities where walking, cycling and using public transport are safe, comfortable and accessible to everyone.

About the RoleThe Communications Designer will play an important role in shaping how Parisar communicates its work, ideas, campaigns and impact. The person will primarily be responsible for creating high-quality social media creatives and short-form videos, particularly using Canva, while also contributing to visual communication materials across digital and print formats.

The role involves translating complex research, policy ideas, data and urban issues into clear, accessible and engaging visual narratives for diverse audiences.

In addition to design, the Communications Designer will support Parisar's social media publishing, website and newsletter management, visual asset management and communications work for the national networks that Parisar is part of.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both designing and communicating, and who would like their work to contribute to conversations around making cities healthier, safer and more liveable.

Key Responsibilities1. Design & Visual Communication

- Design engaging social media creatives, carousels, posters, infographics and other digital communication materials in line with Parisar's brand guidelines.
- Create short-form videos and reels, primarily using Canva, for Parisar's social media platforms.
- Design communication materials for different projects, campaigns and initiatives as per the organisational communications and social media calendar.
- Translate complex research findings, policy ideas, data and urban issues into clear, visually engaging and accessible communication.
- Develop infographics and other visual formats that make technical or complex information easier for diverse audiences to understand.
- Adapt content across different platforms and formats while maintaining consistency in visual identity, messaging and tone.
- Support the design of reports, presentations, event collateral and other communication materials, as required.
- Work closely with the Communications Strategist and programme teams to understand project objectives and develop appropriate visual communication strategies.
- Ensure that all communication materials are proofread, factually accurate, accessible and aligned with Parisar's brand and communications guidelines.
- Support and maintain cohesive visual identities across Parisar's communication channels and projects, as well as relevant national networks that Parisar is part of.

Use of AIParisar has an organisational SOP governing the use of AI in communications and content creation. AI-generated visuals, videos and other creative assets are generally not encouraged for Parisar's organisational communications.



The Communications Designer will be expected to follow the organisation's SOP and use AI only where explicitly permitted and appropriate.

2.

Social Media

Management & Publishing

- Publish and schedule content across Parisar's social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and YouTube.
- Support the publication of content for national networks and platforms that Parisar is part of, as required.
- Ensure that posts are published accurately and on time according to the social media calendar.
- Adapt content appropriately for different social media platforms and audiences.
- Add and check captions, links, tags, hashtags and other platform-specific elements before publication.
- Maintain and regularly update stakeholder, partner, media and influencer tagging lists.
- Keep track of relevant organisations, networks, partners and stakeholders to support appropriate tagging and amplification of content.
- Support creative ideation for new social media formats and ways of improving public engagement.

- 3.

Social Media

Analytics & Performance

- Compile and analyse monthly social media analytics across relevant platforms.
- Track indicators such as reach, impressions, engagement, follower growth and video performance.
- Identify high-performing content, emerging patterns and opportunities for improvement.
- Use analytics and audience insights to inform future content formats, publishing strategies and campaigns.
- Contribute to periodic communications and social media reviews.
- Support a more data-informed approach to Parisar's digital communications.

Website

Management

The Communications Designer will support website content management for Parisar and, where required, the national networks that Parisar is part of.

Responsibilities will include:

- Uploading and updating articles, blogs, reports, newsletters and other content.
- Updating existing information and articles in line with Parisar's communications and editorial guidelines.
- Ensuring that website content is accurate, up to date, well formatted and appropriately categorised.
- Uploading relevant photographs and visual assets.
- Supporting basic website content hygiene and ensuring that outdated information is identified and updated.
- Coordinating with the Communications Strategist and relevant programme teams on website updates.

Experience with content management systems such as WordPress and Joomla will be an advantage. 5. NewsletterThe role will also involve supporting newsletters for Parisar and, where required, relevant national networks.

Responsibilities will include

- Putting together newsletters in coordination with the Communications Strategist and programme teams.
- Sourcing, editing and formatting content and visuals.
- Designing and formatting newsletters in line with relevant brand and communications guidelines.
- Ensuring newsletters are reviewed, finalised and published on schedule.
- Supporting newsletter distribution and promotion through relevant channels.
- Tracking newsletter performance, including metrics such as opens and clicks.
- Analysing performance and identifying opportunities to improve future newsletters.

Photo





Bank & Visual Asset Management

- Develop and maintain an organised photo bank for Parisar's website, social media and other communication materials.
- Regularly upload, organise, label and categorise photographs and other visual assets.
- Ensure that photographs have appropriate credits and relevant information wherever required.
- Help maintain an easily accessible and well-organised repository of Parisar's visual communication materials.
- Identify gaps in the existing photo bank and work with the team to strengthen visual documentation of Parisar's work, events and campaigns.

Podcast

Development & New Communication Formats

Parisar is also interested in exploring new ways of communicating its work and engaging with audiences.

The Communications Designer will

- Support the ideation and development of a potential podcast series.
- Research possible themes, formats, audiences and guests in consultation with the Communications Strategist.
- Help develop episode concepts and supporting visual identities.
- Design promotional assets for podcast episodes and related communication.
- Support basic production, editing, publishing and promotion, where required.
- Contribute ideas for other creative and emerging communication formats that may help Parisar reach wider and more diverse audiences.

Required Skills & ExperienceWe are looking for someone with approximately 4–6 years of relevant qualified experience in communication design, graphic design, visual communication, digital communications, social media or a related field.

The ideal candidate will have:

- Strong skills in communication design and visual communication, with the ability to tell compelling stories through visuals.
- Strong proficiency in Canva, particularly for designing social media content and creating short-form videos and reels.
- A strong understanding of graphic design fundamentals, including layout, typography, visual hierarchy and composition.
- Experience creating communication materials for both digital and print formats.
- Experience designing social media creatives, carousels, infographics and other digital content.
- The ability to simplify and visually represent complex information related to research, policy, data or social issues.
- A good understanding of social media platforms and the content formats that work across them.
- Experience with social media publishing and scheduling.
- Familiarity with social media and newsletter analytics tools.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, including the ability to spot errors in text and visual communication materials.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.

- Additional skills that would be an advantage:

- Experience with design software such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with WordPress, Joomla or other website content management systems.
- Experience designing reports, presentations and event collateral.
- Experience working with newsletters and email communication platforms.
- Experience with photography or visual documentation.
- Familiarity with podcast production, promotion or other audio-visual storytelling formats.
- Experience working with communications related to cities, sustainability, mobility, environment, public policy or other public-interest issues.
