Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Color Chemist responsible for developing, matching, testing, and maintaining color formulations for our painting operations.
The candidate will work closely with the Production, Quality, Design and R&D; teams to achieve accurate color matching, maintain shade consistency, troubleshoot color-related issues and ensure that the required quality standards are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
1. Colour Matching & Development
- Develop and match colours according to approved colour samples, palettes and customer/design requirements.
- Prepare colour formulations using appropriate pigments, dyes, resins and other required materials.
- Maintain consistency of shades across different batches.
- Make necessary formulation adjustments to achieve the required colour accuracy.
- Maintain a database of colour formulations and approved colour standards.
2. Laboratory & Testing
- Conduct laboratory trials and prepare colour samples for approval.
- Test raw materials, pigments and finished products as per defined specifications.
- Perform visual colour comparison and, where applicable, instrumental colour measurement.
- Monitor colour stability and identify variations between batches.
- Maintain proper records of test results, formulations and sample approvals.
3. Production Support
- Provide technical support to the production team during colour preparation and batch production.
- Troubleshoot issues related to shade variation, pigmentation, colour consistency and formulation.
- Assist in scaling up laboratory formulations for production.
- Coordinate with Production and QC teams to resolve quality-related issues.
4. Quality Control
- Ensure colours meet the approved standards and specifications.
- Identify and investigate deviations in colour, shade and appearance.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring colour issues.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of pigments, chemicals and laboratory materials.

- Maintain accurate records of colour formulations, batch details and test results.
- Prepare colour cards, formulation sheets and technical reports.
- Maintain records of approved/rejected colour samples.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of colour formulations.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
- Candidates with Paint Technology / Coating Technology background will be preferred.
- 25 years of relevant experience in paint, coatings, pigments, colour matching or related chemical industries.
- Hands-on experience in colour matching and pigment formulation will be an advantage.
Required Skills
- Robust knowledge of colour theory, pigments and colour formulation.
- Good understanding of paint/coating raw materials.
- Knowledge of colour matching techniques and laboratory testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail and colour perception.
- Ability to maintain accurate formulation and laboratory records.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, QC and Design teams.
- Good communication skills in English.
