Career Counsellor – International Programs & Language Centre
Employment Type: Full-Time | In office
Department: International Programs & Language Training
About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Career Counsellor to manage counselling, admissions and conversions for our international education, language-training and overseas career programs.
The role will cover multiple international destinations and language programs, including Japanese, German, French, Italian and Norwegian , along with other languages and overseas pathways that may be introduced in the future.
The selected candidate will work with students, graduates, working professionals and parents to understand their career objectives, recommend suitable programs, explain language and international career pathways, handle queries and objections, conduct structured follow-ups and convert suitable candidates into enrolments.
This is a counselling and conversion-focused role and requires someone who can take ownership of candidates from the first detailed counselling session through registration, enrolment and handover to the relevant academic, admissions or operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed one-to-one counselling sessions with students, graduates and working professionals.
- Understand each candidate's education, work experience, skills, career goals, financial preparedness and preferred international destination.
- Recommend suitable language-training, education and overseas career pathways based on the candidate's profile.
- Counsel candidates regarding programs connected with countries such as Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Norway and other international markets.
- Explain available language-training programs including Japanese, German, French, Italian and Norwegian.
- Help candidates understand how language proficiency can support higher education, employment and long-term international career opportunities.
- Explain program structure, course duration, language levels, entry requirements, timelines, fees and progression pathways.
- Counsel parents and family members regarding international education and career opportunities where required.
- Handle candidate questions relating to language learning, overseas education, employment prospects, career progression, costs, timelines, accommodation, documentation, visas and relocation.
- Conduct regular and structured follow-ups with interested candidates.
- Convert suitable candidates into registrations and enrolments.
- Handle walk-in enquiries and scheduled counselling appointments.
- Coordinate with language trainers, academic teams, admissions teams, documentation teams and overseas operations teams.
- Maintain accurate counselling notes, candidate profiles, follow-up dates and conversion status in the CRM.
- Follow up with candidates regarding payments, documentation, assessments, class commencement and other enrolment requirements.
- Participate in seminars, workshops, webinars, counselling events and student information sessions when required.
- Maintain regular reports on counselling activity, enrolments, conversions, pending candidates and follow-ups.
International Language Centre Responsibilities The counsellor will play an important role in developing and supporting the organisation's growing international language-training division. The Language Centre is intended to cater to candidates interested in learning languages for:
- Overseas employment
- Higher education
- International career development
- Skill-based migration pathways

- Cultural and workplace readiness
The counsellor should therefore be comfortable counselling candidates across different languages and destinations rather than specialising only in one country. Current and planned language programs may include:
- Japanese
- German
- French
- Italian
- Norwegian
- Other international languages based on future market requirements
The counsellor is not required to personally know or teach all these languages . However, they should be capable of understanding the structure, levels, eligibility, duration and career relevance of each program and explaining them confidently to candidates. Training regarding individual programs and destinations will be provided.
Candidate Counselling Approach
Every candidate should be counselled based on their individual profile rather than being offered a standard program.
The counsellor should assess factors such as:
- Educational qualification
- Academic background
- Work experience
- Existing skills
- Age and eligibility
- Preferred country
- Career objectives
- Willingness to learn a current language
- Financial preparedness
- Preferred timeline
- Family support
- Overseas education or employment objectives
The objective is to identify the most suitable pathway for each candidate and provide transparent guidance regarding what they need to achieve before progressing overseas. Candidate Ownership The counsellor will manage the candidate journey through:
Qualified Lead → Profile Assessment → Counselling → Program Recommendation → Parent Counselling → Follow-Up → Objection Handling → Registration → Enrolment → Handover
This role requires strong ownership.
The counsellor should know the status of every serious candidate and understand:
- Which program they are interested in
- Which country they are considering
- What their concerns are
- Whether parents have been counselled
- Whether finances are a concern
- What documents are pending
- What the next follow-up date is
- What is preventing conversion
- Whether the candidate is ready to enrol
Every genuine candidate should have a clear next action.
Required Skills
- Solid counselling and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal communication.
- Ability to communicate confidently with students and parents.
- Strong follow-up and conversion ability.
- Good presentation and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to understand different international programs and explain them clearly.
- Strong objection-handling and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple candidates and follow-ups simultaneously.
- Target-oriented and comfortable working toward enrolment goals.
- Strong organisational and record-management ability.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable using CRM systems, email and professional WhatsApp communication.
- Ability and willingness to continuously learn about new countries, programs and international career pathways.
Preferred Experience Candidates with previous experience in any of the following areas will be preferred:
- Overseas education counselling
- Study-abroad counselling
- Career counselling
- Student admissions
- Education sales
- Language-training institutes
- Immigration services
- International recruitment
- Overseas employment services
- Training and skill-development organisations
- Consultative sales
Experience counselling for Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Nordic countries or other international destinations will be an added advantage but is not mandatory .
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can develop into a strong International Career Counsellor , rather than someone limited to a single country or program.
The ideal candidate should be capable of learning different international pathways and helping candidates understand which option is most appropriate for their education, skills and career goals.
The person should be
- Confident and persuasive
- Professional in communication
- Comfortable speaking with parents
- Strong at follow-up
- Organised
- Target-oriented
- Curious about international education and employment markets
- Able to learn new programs quickly
- Comfortable handling multiple countries and languages
- Focused on conversions while maintaining transparency
This is not simply an enquiry-handling or front-desk position . The counsellor will be expected to take ownership of the candidate pipeline and contribute directly to registrations, enrolments and the growth of the International Programs and Language Centre.
Performance Expectations
Performance will be evaluated based on:
- Number and quality of counselling sessions
- Follow-up discipline
- Candidate conversions
- Registrations and enrolments
- Parent counselling
- Pipeline management
- CRM accuracy
- Candidate engagement
- Coordination with academic and operations teams
- Contribution to the growth of different language programs
- Overall performance of the International Programs division
The ideal candidate will combine career counselling, relationship building and strong conversion skills while developing knowledge across multiple international destinations and language programs.
