ASSISTANT MANAGER – EHS

ROLE PURPOSE The Assistant Manager – EHS will support the planning, implementation, monitoring and continual improvement of EHS systems at assigned client/project locations.
The role combines field safety leadership, risk management, legal compliance, contractor management, incident prevention, audits, training, reporting and stakeholder coordination.
The candidate should be capable of working independently, managing multiple priorities and driving corrective actions to closure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. EHS Management & Compliance
- Implement EHS policies, procedures, plans and programs at client/project locations.
- Monitor compliance with organizational and project-specific EHS requirements.
- Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HR and Project teams.
- Monitor EHS performance and recommend improvement actions.
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Control
- Conduct/support HIRA, Risk Assessment, JSA/JHA and activity-based risk assessments.
- Review controls for high-risk activities and ensure implementation of the Hierarchy of Controls.
- Monitor critical risks and review assessments following incidents, process changes or modifications.
3. Workplace Safety & High-Risk Activities Plan and conduct inspections and monitor safety controls for:
- Work at Height
- Confined Space
- Hot Work
- Electrical Safety
- Excavation
- Lifting & Rigging
- Machinery Safety
- Lockout/Tagout
- Chemical Handling
- Material Handling
- Construction & Maintenance Activities
Ensure appropriate PPE, competency, permits and control measures are implemented. 4. Permit-to-Work & Operational Controls
- Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work systems.
- Verify field compliance with permit conditions and isolation requirements.
- Conduct periodic PTW audits and recommend improvements.
5. Incident Investigation & Corrective Action
- Support investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventive actions.
- Track actions to closure and analyze incident trends.
- Communicate lessons learned to relevant teams.
6. Contractor EHS Management
- Monitor contractor EHS compliance and performance.
- Review contractor risk assessments, method statements and competencies.
- Conduct contractor induction, meetings, inspections and audits.
- Track contractor observations and corrective actions.
7. Occupational Health & Environmental Management Support implementation of programs covering:
- Occupational health and workplace exposure monitoring
- Medical examinations and first-aid arrangements
- Ergonomics, heat stress and fatigue management
- Waste and hazardous waste management
- Chemical storage and spill prevention
- Water, air emissions, noise and effluent controls
- Pollution prevention and environmental compliance
8. Legal & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain/support the EHS Legal Register.
- Monitor applicable statutory requirements, licenses, permits and inspections.
- Track renewals and compliance actions.
- Identify compliance gaps and coordinate corrective actions.
9. Emergency Preparedness
- Support emergency response plans and mock drills.
- Monitor emergency response teams and equipment.
- Evaluate drill performance and track improvement actions.
- Support response and coordination during emergencies.
10. Training, Awareness & Employee Engagement Plan and coordinate EHS programs such as:
- EHS Induction
- Toolbox Talks
- Fire & Emergency Response
- Work at Height
- Confined Space
- Electrical & Chemical Safety
- PPE
- Incident Prevention
- Environmental Awareness
Maintain training and competency records and evaluate effectiveness. 11. Audits, Inspections & Reporting
- Conduct EHS inspections, audits and compliance assessments.
- Support ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 internal audits and external/client audits.
- Prepare corrective action plans and monitor closure.
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly EHS reports, dashboards and management summaries covering risks, incidents, trends, compliance and improvement actions.
12. Team & Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate effectively with
- EHS/Safety Officers and Supervisors
- Contractors and workers
- Project & Operations teams
- Engineering & Maintenance
- HR & Administration
- Client representatives
- Senior Management
- Occupational Health professionals
- Regulatory authorities
Where EHS/Safety Officers are deployed, provide technical guidance, supervision and day-to-day support.
QUALIFICATION
Essential
- Degree/Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Industrial Engineering; or
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety / Industrial Safety.
Preferred Certifications
- NEBOSH IGC / Diploma
- Diploma in Industrial Safety
- IOSH
- ISO 45001 Internal / Lead Auditor
- ISO 14001 Internal / Lead Auditor
- First Aid
- Fire & Emergency Management
- Relevant industry-specific EHS certifications
EXPERIENCE 5–8 years of relevant EHS experience, preferably in one or more of the following:

Experience in EHS team coordination, contractor management and client/site operations will be preferred.
