1. Job Purpose The Assistant Professor of Physiology will be responsible for delivering high-quality undergraduate and, where applicable, postgraduate teaching in Physiology; facilitating competency-based medical education; conducting practical and laboratory teaching; contributing to research and academic activities; and participating in departmental, institutional and student-support activities.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

- Conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars, small-group teaching and practical classes in Physiology for MBBS students.
- Deliver teaching in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) competency-based medical education curriculum and institutional academic plans.
- Conduct demonstrations and practical sessions in areas including:
- General Physiology
- Blood and body fluids
- Cardiovascular Physiology
- Respiratory Physiology
- Gastrointestinal Physiology
- Renal Physiology
- Endocrinology
- Reproductive Physiology
- Neurophysiology
- Exercise and environmental physiology
- Applied and clinical physiology
- Facilitate problem-based, case-based and integrated teaching wherever applicable.
- Participate in interdepartmental/integrated teaching with clinical and pre-clinical departments.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching material, presentations, practical exercises and other academic resources.
- Conduct formative assessments, internal assessments, practical examinations and viva voce as assigned.




- Participate in university examinations and other academic duties as per institutional and university requirements.
- Maintain appropriate records of teaching, attendance, assessments and academic activities.

B. Student Mentoring & Academic Support

- Mentor and guide undergraduate medical students in academic and professional development.
- Identify students requiring academic support and provide appropriate guidance/remedial teaching.
- Encourage professional behaviour, communication skills and ethical values among students.
- Participate in student counselling and mentoring activities as assigned by the institution.

C. Laboratory Responsibilities

- Conduct and supervise Physiology practicals and demonstrations.
- Ensure appropriate utilization and maintenance of laboratory equipment and teaching resources.
- Promote secure laboratory practices and compliance with institutional safety procedures.
- Assist in updating practical manuals, laboratory protocols and teaching resources.
- Ensure proper documentation of laboratory activities and practical teaching.

D. Research & Academic Development

- Undertake research in areas of interest within Physiology and allied biomedical sciences.
- Publish research findings in appropriate peer-reviewed/indexed journals.
- Participate in departmental research projects, conferences, seminars and academic meetings.
- Guide and support undergraduate research activities where applicable.




- Participate in continuing professional development and faculty development programmes.
- Contribute to academic innovations and evidence-based teaching methodologies.

E. Departmental & Institutional Responsibilities

- Participate in departmental meetings, academic planning and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Assist the Head of the Department in curriculum implementation and departmental administration.
- Participate in committees and institutional activities as assigned.
- Support NMC, university and institutional inspections/assessments and provide required academic documentation.
- Maintain professional records and documentation required by the institution and regulatory authorities.
- Perform other academic and administrative duties reasonably assigned by the Head of Department / competent authority.

3. Educational Qualification For Medical Faculty:

- MBBS from a recognised medical institution/university.
- MD/DNB in Physiology or an NMC-recognised equivalent qualification in the concerned specialty, as applicable under the prevailing NMC regulations.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Medical Council / National Medical Register, wherever applicable.

Non-Medical Faculty:

- M.Sc. in Medical Physiology with Ph.D. in Medical Physiology, obtained through the prescribed regular, in-campus programme from a recognised medical institution, subject to the prevailing NMC regulations.
