Job Summary: As an Architect in the Discovery organization at JioHotstar, you will shape the long-term technical vision and drive the evolution of the recommendations platform. You will lead engineering initiatives across some of the most critical components of the user journey—including tray ranking, page ranking, and the core recommendation infrastructure. In this role, you will own and continuously evolve the foundational platforms that power personalization at scale, enabling dynamic and context-aware discovery experiences across the product.

These systems play a pivotal role in driving user engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction by ensuring that the most relevant content is surfaced for every user.

The Discovery team drives the "what to watch"

experience on Hotstar. We build intelligent systems that help users discover the right content at the right time through personalized recommendations, powerful search, and rich metadata. We combine deep user understanding with scalable infrastructure to ensure users find content they'll love—whether it's their next binge-worthy series, trending live sports, or hidden gems.

Our systems operate at massive scale, handling billions of user interactions daily—including impressions, clicks, scrolls, watch events, and search queries.

Reporting To: Senior Director

Key responsibilities





- Define and drive long-term architecture for platform systems across teams
- Lead the management of operational excellence, focusing on efficiency in cost and operations, and providing guidance for the team’s improvement
- Lead the long term architecture the scale, infra & recommendations platform, owning critical systems that power retrieval, ranking, and core recommendation infrastructure for personalized experiences across the platform.
- Architect backend services capable of serving hundreds of millions of users and handling massive concurrency spikes (e.g., 20x during live events) with sub-second latencies.
- Ensure the quality of the overall architecture and design of various systems and components
- Simplify complex problems into straightforward solutions
- Develop technical roadmaps for future directions and technological advancements
- Understand system interdependencies and limitations to facilitate decision-making and conflict resolution within teams
- Take ownership of building and launching key components and systems
- Influence teams technically to enhance productivity and effectiveness, while also mentoring on advanced technical matters for career development
- Facilitate rapid prototyping to identify and eliminate blind spots

Skills and attributes for success:

- Lead by example, take ownership of projects, and spearheaded the development and launch of critical components and systems
- Possess sound business judgment and strong influencing skills to drive strategic decisions and initiatives effectively
- Strong background in ML Ops, data streaming, feature stores, model deployment, or real-time processing.
- Preferred experience includes exposure to: Recommender systems, Information retrieval, relevance, and ranking,



and Large language models.
- Strong analytical thinking to dissect complex problems and devise innovative solutions, showcasing exceptional problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in software development, leveraging hands-on experience and expertise to design and implement high-quality solutions
- Possess extensive technical knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization, and provided comprehensive guidance across frontend and backend technologies
- Proven experience designing and scaling ML infrastructure or big data platforms in production.
- Experience with Big Data & Real time processing systems - Spark, Spark Streaming or Flink
- Experience with high scale databases - MySQL, NoSQL (Scylla, Cassandra, Redis, DynamoDB)

Preferred education and experience Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or a related field with 10+ years of experience in software development
