The Role

We are looking for a hands-on Assistant General Manager – Pharmaceutical Procurement to own the buy side of our business across warehouses, own-store pharmacies, and our private label portfolio.

Reporting directly to the Director – Operations , you will lead vendor strategy, negotiations, commercial terms, and bottom-line gross margins. If you thrive on active deal-making, driving unit economics, and building procurement systems from the ground up, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Margin Ownership

- Own total pharma procurement spend across warehouses, pharmacies, and private labels with direct accountability for landed costs and gross margins.
- Optimize the sourcing mix across direct manufacturers, C&F; agents, and stockists to maximize leverage.
- Benchmark molecule- and SKU-level pricing against market rates to eliminate over-buying.
- Deliver cost savings via volume consolidation, rate negotiation, scheme optimization, and vendor rationalization.

Vendor Management & Negotiation

- Lead end-to-end vendor lifecycles: sourcing, due diligence, onboarding, performance reviews, and exits.
- Personally negotiate high-value annual contracts, trade margins, credit terms, expiry/return policies, and freight costs.
- Establish direct relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers to capture channel margins.

Private Label Sourcing

- Onboard contract manufacturers (CMOs)



across key dosage forms following technical and commercial due diligence.
- Build landed-cost models for new SKUs to achieve target unit economics.
- Partner with Product and Sales teams on SKU selection, MOQs, packaging, and go-to-market timelines.
- Maintain strict compliance with DPCO price control, labeling standards, and drug regulations.

Inventory, Working Capital & Compliance

- Negotiate extended credit terms to optimize cash flow and working capital.
- Collaborate with Warehouse Operations and Sales to ensure zero stock-outs on key SKUs while minimizing dead stock and expiry losses.
- Enforce regulatory compliance across drug licensing, GST, DPCO regulations, and batch documentation.

Team & Systems Leadership

- Build and mentor a lean procurement team while maintaining high operational involvement.
- Implement governance controls: approval matrices, rate masters, PO discipline, and audit trails.
- Partner with Tech teams to digitize procurement workflows (rate contracts, POs, vendor scorecards) onto the NuvertOS platform.

Qualifications & Requirements

Must Have:

- 8–10 years of experience in pharma procurement, sourcing, or category management across pharma distribution, hospital supply chains, retail pharmacy chains, or manufacturing.
- Track record of managing annual procurement spend of ₹50+ Crore with direct gross margin accountability.
- Strong negotiation background with quantifiable cost-savings outcomes.
- Deep knowledge of Indian pharmaceutical trade dynamics (manufacturers, C&Fs;, stockists, margins, schemes, credit terms).
- Working knowledge of drug licensing, DPCO regulations, GST, and batch management.
- Advanced commercial modeling and price-benchmarking skills.

Great to Have:

- MBA/Master's degree or a background in Pharmacy / Life Sciences.
- Direct experience in private label creation or CMO contract negotiations.
- Prior experience managing multi-warehouse, multi-location supply chains.
- Background in high-growth startups or tech-enabled supply chain platfor
