Designing Manager – Sheet Metal

JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced Designing Manager with strong knowledge of Sheet Metal Design and Manufacturing to lead and manage the Design Engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for managing design activities, reviewing drawings, coordinating with production and vendors, and ensuring that designs are accurate, manufacturable, and delivered within project timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTeam Leadership & Management

- Lead, manage, and mentor the Design Engineering Team.
- Allocate design projects and responsibilities among team members.
- Monitor team performance, productivity, and project timelines.
- Review and approve design work before release to production.
- Train and develop team members on design standards and best practices.

Sheet Metal Design

- Develop and review 2D and 3D designs for sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Prepare and verify engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Ensure designs are suitable for manufacturing and assembly.
- Apply knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, bending, laser cutting, punching, welding, and assembly.
- Ensure proper consideration of material thickness, bend allowance, bend radius, tolerances, and manufacturability.
- Review designs for accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacturing.
- Handle design modifications and engineering changes as required.

Production & Cross-Functional Coordination

- Coordinate closely with Production, Quality, Purchase, and Projects teams.
- Resolve design-related issues arising during production.
- Provide technical support to the production team for drawing and design-related problems.
- Work with vendors for design clarification, drawing requirements, and technical issues.
- Ensure timely release of drawings and BOMs to the concerned departments.

Quality & Process Improvement

- Ensure compliance with company design standards and engineering practices.




- Review and reduce design errors, rework, and production issues.
- Support cost reduction and design optimization initiatives.
- Standardize drawings, design procedures, and documentation.
- Identify opportunities for improving design and manufacturing processes.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Strong knowledge of Sheet Metal Design and Manufacturing Processes.
- Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks or similar 2D/3D design software.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T;, tolerances, material selection, and fabrication methods.
- Good understanding of laser cutting, CNC punching, CNC bending, welding, fabrication, and assembly.
- Knowledge of BOM preparation and engineering documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and design analysis skills.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Industry Experience

Experience in Sheet Metal Manufacturing, Industrial Equipment, Automobile Components, Electrical Panels, Fabrication, or similar manufacturing industries will be preferred.

Preferred Candidate

Candidates with strong sheet metal design experience and proven team-handling capability will be preferred.

8–12 Years of relevant experience, preferably in Sheet Metal Manufacturing
