FREELANCE DECOR & INTERIOR DESIGNER

Kalavya Atelier is an interior design startup focused on creating thoughtful, bespoke and design-led residential spaces.

We are looking to collaborate with a Freelance Decor & Interior Designer who can bring a strong creative perspective to the finer elements of an interior — from custom décor and furniture to soft furnishings, partitions, statement pieces and unique cultural elements.

This is a freelance, remote collaboration.

WHAT YOU COULD DESIGN

- Statement décor pieces
- Sculptural objects and art pieces
- Custom furniture
- Side tables, consoles and accent pieces
- Mirrors and wall pieces
- Lighting and decorative lighting elements
- Screens and partitions
- Custom panels and installations
- Vases, vessels and tabletop décor
- Soft furnishings and textile-based elements
- Rugs, cushions, throws and other fabric elements
- Bespoke accessories and functional décor
- Culture-inspired design pieces
- Statement elements that bring character and identity to a space
- Any other custom element that can be incorporated during or after the interior and furnishing process

We are interested in designers who understand and can creatively work with materials such as:

- Metal
- Glass
- Wood
- Fabric
- Stone
- Ceramic
- Cane / Rattan
- Resin
- Mixed materials
- Other relevant materials

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conceptualise original and custom décor, furniture and interior elements
- Develop ideas from initial concept to detailed, executable design
- Explore materials, textures, finishes, forms and construction techniques
- Create sketches, concepts, drawings and design details
- Develop pieces that are aesthetically strong, functional and practical to execute
- Design bespoke elements based on specific interior projects




- Collaborate with artisans, craftsmen, fabricators and vendors wherever required
- Understand material possibilities, fabrication techniques and execution requirements
- Explore Indian crafts, culture, materials and techniques through a contemporary design lens
- Create pieces that complement and elevate the overall interior design

We are looking for someone with:

- Strong conceptual and creative thinking
- Excellent understanding of materials and their possibilities
- Robust sense of proportion, form, texture and detailing
- Ability to create ORIGINAL and CUSTOM designs
- Strong understanding of aesthetics and contemporary design
- Understanding of fabrication and execution is highly preferred
- Interest in crafts, culture, materials and techniques is a plus

IMPORTANT

This is NOT a graphic design role.

We are NOT looking for graphic designers, branding designers, social media designers or digital-only designers.

We are specifically looking for someone who can design PHYSICAL DÉCOR, FURNITURE, PARTITIONS, INSTALLATIONS, SOFT FURNISHINGS, STATEMENT PIECES AND OTHER TANGIBLE ELEMENTS that can become a part of an interior.
