Roles & Responsibilities: QMS Engineer
Textile Machinery Manufacturing Company
Position Summary

The QMS Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Quality Management System across incoming materials, in-process fabrication, and final machine assembly. The role requires hands-on experience in sheet metal quality inspection and a strong understanding of fabrication processes, along with ownership of ISO documentation, non-conformance management, and supplier quality coordination.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Quality Management System (QMS) Implementation & Maintenance

- Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the QMS in line with ISO 9001:2015 (or applicable standards).
- Prepare, review, and update quality manuals, SOPs, work instructions, quality plans, and inspection formats.
- Conduct internal audits across departments (incoming, in-process, fabrication, assembly, stores) and track closure of audit findings.
- Coordinate external/certification body audits and ensure timely closure of non-conformances (NCs).
- Drive management review meetings (MRM) with quality data, KPIs, and improvement action plans.

2. Incoming Quality Inspection — Sheet Metal & Components

- Conduct incoming quality inspection of sheet metal (MS/SS sheets, plates, coils), fabricated parts, tubes, pipes, and solid rods against drawings and specifications.
- Verify dimensional accuracy, material grade, thickness tolerance, surface finish, and weld quality of fabricated sheet metal components.
- Use measuring instruments (vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, surface plate, go-no-go gauges) to validate critical dimensions.
- Inspect welded, bent, and laser-cut sheet metal assemblies for defects such as burrs, weld porosity, distortion, and alignment issues.
- Coordinate with fabrication vendors to resolve recurring quality issues in sheet metal parts and job-work items.

3. In-Process & Final Inspection

- Conduct in-process quality checks during fabrication, machining, and sub-assembly stages of machine components.
- Perform final inspection of assembled textile machinery/sub-assemblies before dispatch, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.

- Maintain inspection records, checklists, and traceability documentation for all critical components.
- Coordinate with production team to implement in-line quality checks and reduce rework/rejection at later stages.

4. Non-Conformance & Corrective Action Management

- Identify, document, and analyze non-conformances (NCs) in raw materials, fabricated parts, and finished assemblies.
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) using tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone, and Pareto analysis.
- Initiate and track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with production, fabrication, and supplier teams.
- Maintain rejection/rework trend reports and drive reduction initiatives with cross-functional teams.

5. Supplier Quality Coordination

- Conduct supplier quality audits, especially for sheet metal fabrication vendors, pneumatic component suppliers, and electrical part vendors.
- Support the procurement team in vendor evaluation and approval from a quality standpoint.
- Communicate quality requirements, drawings, and inspection criteria to vendors and job-work partners.
- Coordinate return/rejection of non-conforming materials and follow up on replacement/corrective measures with suppliers.

6. Documentation & Compliance

- Maintain calibration records for measuring instruments and coordinate periodic calibration as per schedule.
- Prepare and maintain quality documentation including inspection reports, test certificates, material test certificates (MTC), and NC reports.
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific quality requirements and applicable statutory/regulatory standards.
- Maintain traceability records linking raw material batches to finished machine components.

7. Continuous Improvement & Training

- Drive quality improvement projects targeting reduction in rejection rate, rework, and customer complaints.

- Conduct training sessions for shop-floor staff and inspectors on quality standards, inspection methods, and sheet metal defect identification.
- Support implementation of Poka-Yoke (error-proofing) and other quality tools on the shop floor.
- Track and report quality KPIs (rejection %, rework %, customer complaints, first-pass yield) to management.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Mandatory: Hands-on experience in sheet metal inspection — dimensional checking, weld quality assessment, surface finish evaluation, and fabrication defect identification.
- Robust knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 QMS requirements and documentation.
- Working knowledge of GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and engineering drawing interpretation.
- Proficiency with measuring instruments and inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface plates).
- Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, Pareto).
- Basic understanding of pneumatics, electrical drives, and consumables used in textile machinery (added advantage).
- Good analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with production, fabrication vendors, and procurement teams.

Qualifications & Experience

- Education: Diploma/B.E. in Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: 4–8 years in a Quality/QMS role within a sheet metal fabrication, machinery manufacturing, or engineering industry — with mandatory hands-on exposure to sheet metal quality inspection.
- Certifications (Preferred): ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor certification; Six Sigma Green Belt (added advantage).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Incoming rejection rate (sheet metal & fabricated parts)
- In-process and final rejection/rework rate
- CAPA closure turnaround time
- Internal/external audit non-conformance closure rate
- Customer complaint rate and resolution time
- On-time calibration compliance

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month

Benefits:

- Cell phone reimbursement
- Flexible schedule
- Food provided
- Paid sick time
- Paid time off
- Provident Fund

Work Location: In person
