ob Purpose

To perform and supervise diagnostic imaging procedures safely and efficiently, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images, excellent patient care, radiation safety, accurate documentation, and smooth day-to-day functioning of the Radiology Department.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform and supervise routine and specialized radiographic procedures as per departmental protocols and scope of competency.
- Perform X-Ray, Portable X-Ray, C-Arm, CT, MRI or other available imaging procedures as applicable to the hospital.
- Verify patient identification, investigation request, clinical details, and required imaging protocol before performing the procedure.
- Ensure correct patient positioning, exposure factors, imaging techniques, and production of diagnostic-quality images.
- Operate imaging equipment safely and efficiently and ensure proper handling of accessories.
- Follow radiation protection and ALARA principles to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure to patients and staff.
- Ensure appropriate use of lead aprons, thyroid shields, dosimeters, and other radiation protection equipment.
- Assist Radiologists and clinicians during special procedures, contrast studies, C-Arm procedures, and emergency imaging whenever required.
- Monitor patients during procedures and immediately report any adverse reaction, deterioration, or emergency condition.
- Handle emergency, ICU, OT, and portable imaging requests on priority as per hospital protocol.
- Ensure proper infection-control practices during imaging procedures, particularly for ICU, isolation, and infectious patients.




- Review images for technical quality before sending them for reporting and repeat examinations only when clinically/technically justified.
- Maintain accurate records, registers, imaging logs, contrast records, equipment checklists, and other departmental documentation.
- Ensure correct use of RIS/PACS/HIS and maintain confidentiality of patient information and diagnostic images.
- Coordinate effectively with Radiologists, Consultants, Nursing, Emergency, ICU, OT, and other clinical departments.
- Supervise and guide junior radiographers, technicians, trainees, and students in technical procedures and departmental protocols.
- Allocate daily workload and support smooth patient flow and efficient utilization of imaging equipment.
- Conduct or support orientation and on-the-job training for newly joined radiography staff.
- Monitor compliance with departmental SOPs, safety protocols, infection-control standards, and hospital policies.
- Perform routine equipment checks and immediately report equipment malfunction, downtime, or safety concerns to the concerned authority.
- Coordinate with biomedical/engineering teams and service providers for equipment maintenance when required.
- Participate in quality assurance, clinical audits, incident reporting, and quality-improvement activities.




- Monitor stock of radiology consumables and inform the HOD regarding shortages or replenishment requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and readiness of radiology rooms and equipment.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programmes, drills, and competency assessments.
- Support NABH documentation and compliance activities related to the Radiology Department.
- Ensure professional, courteous, and patient-friendly communication at all times.
- Perform other duties assigned by the HOD/Radiologist or Management in the interest of the department.
