Shelar is a design-led handbag accessories brand with a mission to build an Indian take on the accessible luxury handbags space. Our goal is to create designs inspired by Indian elements which are perfectly functional and become a part of the customer's everyday life.

Role Description

This is a project-based, on-site role in Mumbai. The project is a capsule collection of leather handbags that translates Maharashtrian design language- its textiles, crafts, and architectural forms into contemporary everyday pieces.

Key responsibilities:

- Research market trends, consumer preferences, and emerging materials to inform current handbag concepts
- Develop design concepts, sketch and detail handbags
- Collaborate with production teams to refine prototypes
- Conduct user-focused studies, gather insights on usability and carrying comfort, and translate findings into improved design features
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to iterate on designs and document specifications
- Support the launch of new handbag collections

Qualifications:





- Demonstrated engagement with Maharashtrian craft, textile, or architectural design such as Paithani, Warli, Kolhapuri leather, wada architecture, temple ornament, or comparable, shown through portfolio, thesis, or prior work
- Proficiency in handbag design, including sketching, material selection (especially leather), and detailing hardware and construction
- Experience collaborating with manufacturers or artisans, including basic knowledge of leather cutting, stitching, and finishing processes
- Strong visual communication skills and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software)
- Ability to work on-site in Mumbai, manage multiple projects, and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams
- Relevant degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, or a related discipline is preferred
