One of our products is Clipster, a social media application focused on short-form video content.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Flutter Developer to work on Clipster's short-video feed and video player.
The core requirement is to build a smooth, fast and production-ready vertical video experience similar to modern short-video platforms such as Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok.
You will work with our existing Flutter/Dart codebase and improve/refactor the current implementation rather than building the application from scratch.
What You'll Work On
- Build and optimize a full-screen vertical short-video feed
- Implement smooth swipe/scroll between videos
- Optimize video initialization and playback
- Implement efficient video preloading for the next/previous videos
- Manage video controllers efficiently to avoid memory leaks
- Reduce buffering and unnecessary loading time
- Improve scrolling FPS and overall feed performance
- Handle play/pause based on the currently visible video
- Properly dispose and reuse video controllers
- Optimize video playback for longer videos and different network conditions
- Integrate and optimize native Android video functionality where required
- Refactor the existing video-player code into a clean and maintainable architecture
- Debug performance issues on real Android devices
- Ensure the implementation remains stable as the number of videos/users increases
Required Skills
- Strong experience with Flutter and Dart
- Strong understanding of Flutter widget lifecycle and state management
- Experience implementing video players in Flutter
- Strong understanding of video controller lifecycle and memory management
- Experience with video preloading, caching and buffering optimization
- Experience with native Android development
- Kotlin or Java experience
- Understanding of Android Media/ExoPlayer or similar native video technologies
- Experience debugging Flutter performance issues
- Git/GitHub experience
Highly Preferred
Experience building any of the following:
- TikTok-style video feeds
- Instagram Reels-style feeds
- YouTube Shorts-style feeds
- Video streaming applications
- Social media applications with large video feeds
- Custom Flutter/native video-player implementations
Key
This is not a basic Flutter UI development role.
We specifically need someone who understands video playback, performance optimization, controller management, preloading and native Android video integration.
You will be working with an existing codebase, so the ability to understand, debug and improve existing code is very important.
