What Youll Be Doing (position summary):
The Payment Officer is responsible for the day-to-day review and processing of payments for domestic and overseas clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of payment commitments. The role supports end-to-end wire transfer processing, maintains high data integrity, and upholds client satisfaction while meeting productivity and service level standards.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):
- Review and process payments using various electronic queues and tools for dispatch to domestic and international destinations via SWIFT
- Identify and recommend routine improvements to processes and services
- Create and compile reports to support quality assurance and client satisfaction objectives
- Identify and escalate issues requiring further analysis or investigation
- Process corrections and amendments to payment information to ensure data accuracy and timely execution
- Liaise with internal partners to resolve discrepancies and ensure customer satisfaction
- Organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and handle critical transactions efficiently
- Stay updated on internal and external changes affecting payment operations
- Assist in departmental initiatives and projects for continuous improvement
- Maintain system access and confidential material in strict compliance with audit requirements
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Regular interaction with internal CIBC employees, teams, and departments to obtain, provide, and clarify information
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS:
- As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
JOB DIMENSIONS:
- Processes high volumes of domestic and international payments daily, ensuring accuracy, compliance,
and timely completion within established service level agreements and key performance indicators
Experience: 2+ years of experience
Who You Are (skills/qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered
- 2+ years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in payment or treasury operations
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
Must Have Skills:
- Familiarity with internal CIBC systems and applications (e.g., COINS Foreign Exchange)
- Good keyboarding (minimum 50 wpm) and PC skills
- Strong knowledge of payment and treasury operations, processes, and standards
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with the ability to build trust
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload in a high-volume environment
- Analytical and systematic thinking, with sound reasoning, results orientation, and initiative
- Independent judgment and decision-making skills, including appropriate escalation
- Ability to work well under pressure with excellent attention to accuracy and detail
- Commitment to confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive information in accordance with CIBC policies, business ethics, and regulatory standards
- Understanding of business process design and risk management
