Role: Technical Lead - SDET (Test Automation)
Reports To: Director Quality & Automation Engineering
Note: Telecom experience is mandatory
About the Job:
We are hiring Technical Leads SDET to own the architecture and delivery of test automation for Mobileum's telecom products. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you will write code, design frameworks, set automation standards, and mentor a team of SDETs while partnering closely with development and DevOps.
SDET here means engineering-grade quality: you build the frameworks and utilities others rely on, embed testing into CI/CD, and treat tests as durable engineering assets — not brittle scripts
Roles & Responsibility: -
Automation Architecture & Leadership
- Design and own scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks (UI, API, integration, E2E).
- Set automation standards, patterns (e.g., Page Object Model, fixtures), and code-review practices.
- Mentor SDETs; raise the engineering bar across the team.
Test Engineering
- Build automated suites for functional, integration, regression, and E2E coverage across products.
- Develop reusable test utilities, test data management, and environment provisioning for tests.
- Drive API and contract testing (RestAssured/Postman) and service-level validation.
CI/CD & Shift-Left
- Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines as quality gates for continuous delivery.
- Champion shift-left testing and fast, reliable feedback loops.
- Reduce flakiness and regression cycle time (including AI-assisted prioritization where useful)
Performance Engineering (primary focus for one of the two seats).
- Design and execute load, stress, soak, spike, and scalability tests using JMeter, Gatling, k6, or Locust.
- Define performance benchmarks, SLAs/SLOs, and capacity models for high-throughput telecom workloads.
- Perform bottleneck analysis and profiling across application, database, infrastructure, and network layers using APM/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana,
Dynatrace).
Collaboration & Quality Analysis
- Partner with developers, DevOps, and telecom architects to build testability into design.
- Analyze pre-production and production issues; close test gaps and improve coverage.
- Translate roaming/telecom-specific logic into robust automated validation.
Desired Profile: -
Programming & Frameworks
- Strong coding in Java and/or Python (TypeScript/JS a plus).
- Modern automation frameworks: Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, TestNG/PyTest.
- API testing: RestAssured, Postman; contract testing.
Engineering Practices
- CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI; Git-based workflows.
- Test architecture, design patterns, and framework maintainability.
- Docker/Kubernetes exposure for test environments (OpenShift a plus).
Performance Engineering (required for the perf-focused seat, desirable for both)
- Load tooling: JMeter, Gatling, k6, Locust.
- APM & profiling: Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace/New Relic; bottleneck analysis and capacity planning.
Telecom Domain
- Familiarity with telecom/roaming data and protocols (GTP, Diameter, SS7, SIP).
- Exposure to CDR/SDR/TAP validation and 4G/5G core concepts a strong plus.
Technical skills:
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and set automation strategy
- Strong debugging and problem-solving in distributed systems
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration
- For the performance seat: demonstrable experience owning performance testing for high-scale systems
Positive to have:
- Big data / distributed systems testing (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
- OpenShift/Kubernetes and cloud-native testing experience.
- AI-assisted testing / self-healing automation exposure.
- Roaming analytics or telecom product QE background.
Work Experience: 8–12 years in test automation/SDET roles with demonstrated framework design and technical leadership
Educational Qualification:
BE. / B.Tech., M.E./M.Tech. or M. Sc. in Computer Science / Electronics Engineering / MCA
Location: Bangalore
