Position Title: Duty Medical Officer
Reporting To: Regional Medical Officer/ Regional Business Manager
Supervises: Physician assistant, Physiotherapist and coordinates with Nurses
Role Purpose
To provide on-site medical oversight for residents, including routine clinical assessments, timely response to health concerns and emergencies, coordination with consultants, external hospitals or specialists, and support for the interdisciplinary care team in ensuring clinical stability and appropriate escalation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medical Assessment & Rounds
- Conduct regular clinical rounds across the assigned block, focusing on high-risk and deteriorating residents.
- Review vitals, symptoms, and nursing observations to determine necessary medical action.
- Document medical findings and decisions in resident records.
2. Emergency Response & Escalation
- Act as the first medical responder in emergencies (e.g., fall with injury, unresponsiveness, severe shortness of breath).
- Stabilize the resident and guide the team on whether hospitalization is needed.
- Coordinate with ambulance staff and prepare transfer documentation.
3. Prescription & Medication Review
- Issue or revise prescriptions based on resident conditions, within permitted scope.
- Review medication errors or adverse events with the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in periodic medication reviews and deprescribing discussions with physicians.
4. Clinical Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain digital/physical records for rounds, interventions, escalations,
and resident summaries.
- Coordinate with the family physician, consulting specialists, and diagnostic labs as needed.
- Assist in discharge summaries for residents returning from hospitalization.
5. Interdisciplinary Support
- Participate in care plan reviews and family conferences.
- Align medical inputs with physiotherapy, diet, nursing, and psychosocial care goals.
- Provide guidance on end-of-life care and palliative planning when relevant.
6. Clinical Risk Management
- Monitor patterns in infections, falls, behavioural issues, or other clinical incidents.
- Recommend preventive strategies in care protocols and safety practices.
- Support the team in implementing infection control, vaccination, and outbreak responses.

Details
Education
MBBS from recognized institution; valid medical registration
Experience
2–5 years in general medicine or primary care; experience with elderly patients preferred
Knowledge
Geriatric care, chronic disease management, emergency triage, preventive medicine
Skills
Clinical decision-making, emergency management, documentation, team communication
Tools Familiarity
EMR/HMS systems, diagnostic equipment
Behavioural Attributes
Calm under pressure, approachable, ethical, team-oriented, responsive
Languages
Proficiency in English and local language
Work Schedule
Full time or rostered shifts; availability for weekends and on-call coverage
