Vireon is building the power distribution hardware and industrial intelligence platform that enables factories to operate in a safe, efficient and reliable manner by combining IoT hardware, edge computing and data science. Our devices turn raw current and voltage waveforms into billing-grade power quality intelligence and real-time protection decisions, running on custom hardware deployed across thousands of industrial panels in India. This is a hands-on role — you'll own the acquisition chain and control logic end-to-end, from raw ADC samples to RMS, harmonics and protection-grade decisions running reliably, unattended, in the field.
What you'll work on
- Design, implement and optimise embedded firmware (C/C++) for STM32-based metering and control devices (L4/G4/F4/H7 families).
- Own the signal acquisition chain: metering AFEs (ADE9000-class) and high-speed ADCs (TI ADS131M08, ADS127L01, ADS8689) for RMS, power, energy, harmonic and sequence-component computation.
- Implement real-time DSP: RMS/THD/harmonic analysis up to the 50th order (IEC 61000-4-7), sag/swell/transient detection (IEEE 1159) and sub-cycle waveform capture.
- Develop control loops for demand management, APFC capacitor-stage switching (anti-hunt logic, hysteresis, dwell timing) and load-shed/load-shift logic, with hard interlocks and fail-safe defaults.
- Build and maintain communication stacks: RS-485 Modbus, MQTT over TLS, and OTA firmware delivery with signed updates and rollback protection.
- Work across the device family (panel-mount, feeder, thermal and wireless motor-sensor SKUs)
to keep firmware and data architecture consistent across the edge-cloud split.
- Optimise for accuracy, timing determinism and power budget on resource-constrained MCUs (Cortex-M4/M7 class).
- Validate firmware RMS/PF/harmonic outputs against reference-grade meters and power analysers during commissioning.
- Debug field issues across prototyping and production, including on live panels at customer sites.
- Write and maintain firmware documentation: register maps, control-loop logic and test procedures.
Must have
- 3+ years of embedded firmware development in C/C++ for real-time, resource-constrained systems.
- Strong experience with STM32 (or similar Cortex-M) microcontrollers, including peripheral drivers — SPI, UART/RS-485, ADC, timers, DMA.
- Solid grounding in digital signal processing: RMS/power computation, FFT-based harmonic analysis, filtering and sampling theory.
- Experience interfacing with metering AFEs or high-resolution ADCs over SPI/I2C.
- Understanding of power quality fundamentals: RMS, THD, power factor, sequence components, IEEE 1159 event classification.
- Experience with RTOS or bare-metal real-time firmware architectures.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP, MQTT.
Valuable to have
- Closed-loop control systems with hard interlocks — capacitor switching, relay/contactor control.
- Exposure to arc-fault or high-frequency transient detection.
- Secure firmware: signed updates, rollback protection, secure elements.
- Standards knowledge: IEC 61000-4-7/4-30, IEEE 519, IEC 62053 metering accuracy classes.
- Taking firmware through EMI/EMC or regulatory certification (BIS, CE, FCC).
