About Nuzzy & Role

Nuzzy is a pet-care technology company developing software, AI capabilities, and a mobile application for pet parents and pet-care businesses. We are solving a major problem in pet care industries through technology, accountability, and artificial intelligence.

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Backend Engineer to join Nuzzy’s founding team and take meaningful ownership of our backend systems.

You will work closely with the Founder and Engineering Lead, taking backend work from technical design through production. The role combines product thinking, practical engineering judgement, and the ability to build reliable systems without unnecessary complexity.

What You’ll Do

- Design, build, test, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data models.
- Own backend features from technical design and implementation through deployment and production support.
- Integrate AI models, AI services, and external systems with appropriate validation, monitoring, and failure handling.
- Translate product requirements into focused, testable releases and make practical technical trade-offs.
- Maintain data integrity, application security, and backend performance as the product evolves.
- Investigate production problems, resolve root causes, and make focused reliability improvements.
- Write maintainable code, review changes, document key decisions, and establish simple engineering standards.

What We’re Looking For





- 4–6 years of professional experience building and operating production backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language and framework.
- Solid experience with API design, data modelling, databases, query performance, and safe schema migrations.
- Proven hands-on experience shipping at least one production feature that integrated an AI or machine-learning model, model API, or AI-powered service.
- Practical AI fluency, including understanding model capabilities and limitations, evaluating output quality, handling latency and failure cases, and recognising when conventional software is the better solution.
- Experience with automated testing, deployments, production debugging, observability, and backend security fundamentals.
- Good judgement about balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Clear communication, strong ownership, and comfort working through evolving requirements.
