About the Role
As a Product Manager at Zato Labs, you'll own the end-to-end lifecycle of a research-driven product initiative from a rough hypothesis to a validated, production-ready capability. You'll work across the full breadth of Zato's platform, drawing on whichever domains a given bet calls for:
- Accounting & compliance — journals, workpapers, and multi-jurisdiction (NZ/AU) audits
- Core platform — workflow systems, command centre, and reviewer tooling
- Intelligent automation — auto-coding, classification, and rules-engines applied to financial data
- Agentic AI — Zato's agentic AI experience and document-intelligence features
- Integrations — connecting Zato to the broader financial and business ecosystem
Rather than owning one narrow, permanent slice, you'll move fluidly across these areas as Labs bets evolve — validating problems, shaping direction, and handing successful bets off to the core product org.
What You'll Do
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and prioritize the roadmap for your initiative, and build a longer-term vision for how it should evolve
- Prioritize based on customer impact, technical feasibility, and business goals
Execution & Delivery
- Translate complex, domain-specific requirements into clear, engineering-ready user stories
- Partner closely with engineering to scope and sequence solutions
- Apply agentic AI where it genuinely improves the product experience
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Security, Compliance & Regulatory teams to clear audit and regulatory requirements
- Partner with Customer Success to bring real customer usage and feedback into the roadmap
- Coordinate with QA on testing and quality bar, and with the PMO on release sequencing
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
- 6–8 years of Product Management experience
- Domain depth in one or more of: accounting/compliance, workflow systems, intelligent classification, agentic AI, or integrations
- Ability to translate ambiguous, technical, or domain-heavy requirements into clear, buildable product requirements
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Comfort applying agentic AI / AI-ML techniques within your product area
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, research-first environment where problems are undefined and priorities shift as bets are validated or killed
Nice-to-Haves
- Background in accounting, fintech, or enterprise B2B SaaS
- Prior experience in 0-to-1 or innovation-lab environments
- Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks or LLM-powered product design
Ways of Working
You'll operate inside Zato Labs — a small, high-autonomy team that partners closely with engineering, collaborates with Security & Compliance, Customer Success, and QA as needed, and works alongside the PMO on delivery planning. Day to day, you'll live in a roadmap/sprint tool, design reviews, and analytics tooling to track feature performance.
