The Role

EDF&F; Man Commodities is a leading global commodities business operating across multiple markets and geographies. We are looking for an Automation Expert to join our team in Mumbai and help transform and streamline data and operational processes supporting our physical trading business.

The Automation Expert will be responsible for identifying manual, fragmented and repetitive processes within the physical trade lifecycle and developing automation, data management and document-management solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, transparency and scalability.

Trades generate significant volumes of data and documentation. The successful candidate will build systems and workflows to automatically capture, extract, validate, classify, store, index and retrieve this information.

The role will combine Python development, data engineering, workflow automation, document processing and database/repository management, working closely with business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Process & Workflow Automation

· Identify and map manual and repetitive processes across physical trading and trade operations and identify opportunities for automation.

· Design and develop automated workflows to reduce manual data entry, processing and reconciliation.

· Translate business requirements into practical, scalable technology solutions.

· Continuously evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.

· Implement appropriate logging, exception handling and monitoring for automation workflows.

Data Management & Engineering

· Build and maintain databases and centralised data repositories for trade and operational information.

· Develop ETL/data pipelines to extract, transform, validate and load data from multiple internal and external sources.

· Design data models, tables and relationships to support operational and analytical requirements.

· Establish automated data quality, validation, standardisation and reconciliation checks.

· Integrate data from Excel, CSV, ERP, email, APIs and other business systems.

· Maintain data integrity, traceability and appropriate audit trails.

Document Management & Automation

· Develop automated processes for receiving, processing and storing PDF and other trade-related documents.

· Automate extraction of information relevant data.





· Implement automated document classification.

· Build processes for automatic document naming, metadata tagging, indexing, filing and retrieval.

· Develop and maintain centralised document repositories using SharePoint Online or equivalent platforms.

· Implement document version control, access permissions, audit trails and document lifecycle processes.

· Integrate document repositories with databases and business applications.

· Explore and implement OCR / intelligent document processing where required.

API & System Integration

· Develop and integrate REST APIs and other system interfaces.

· Integrate document repositories, databases, business applications and external data sources.

· Work with JSON, authentication mechanisms and API-based data exchange.

· Exposure to Microsoft Graph API will be an advantage.

Reporting & Business Intelligence

· Develop dashboards and reporting solutions to provide business users with improved visibility into trade and operational data.

· Build operational KPIs and automated management reporting where required.

· Work with Power BI and Power Query to support business reporting and analytics.

Stakeholder Management

· Work closely with Traders, Operations, Finance, Risk, IT and other business stakeholders to understand requirements and identify automation opportunities.

· Document existing and future-state processes.

· Explain technical solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

· Support users during implementation and adoption of new automation solutions.

Required Skills & Experience:

Graduation in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline, with 2–3 years of relevant experience in automation, data engineering, or process automation. Good to have commodity markets experience.

Python: Strong hands-on experience in Python for automation, data processing and workflow development.

SQL:



Strong SQL skills including querying, joins, data validation and reconciliation.

Databases: Good understanding of relational databases, database design, tables, relationships and data management. Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL is desirable.

ETL & Data Pipelines: Experience extracting, transforming, validating and loading data from multiple sources.

API Integration: Experience with REST APIs, JSON, authentication and system-to-system integrations.

Automation: Demonstrated experience automating manual or repetitive business processes.

Data Management: Experience with data modelling, data cleansing, validation and data quality.

File & Document Processing: Experience working with Excel, CSV, PDF and structured/semi-structured data.

Version Control: Familiarity with Git/GitHub/GitLab and good software development practices.

Document & Repository Skills

· Experience with one or more of the following is desirable:

· SharePoint Online / Microsoft 365

· Document management systems

· Document repositories and metadata management

· Automated document ingestion and classification

· PDF processing and document extraction

· OCR / Intelligent Document Processing

· Document indexing and search/retrieval

Domain Experience

Experience in one or more of the following domains is preferred:

· Commodities / physical trading

· Trade operations / middle office

· Logistics and supply chain

· Shipping and trade documentation

· Financial services / banking operations

· ERP-based operational processes An understanding of the physical trade lifecycle will be highly valuable.

Prior commodities experience is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with solid automation, data and document-processing experience from adjacent operational or financial domains will also be considered.
