Tender Analysis: Reviewing project drawings (MEP/Architectural), specifications, and scope of work to identify the specific firefighting needs for a building, such as sprinklers, hydrants, or gas suppression systems.
Quantity Take-offs (QTO): Using software like AutoCAD or Bluebeam to measure and list all required materials, including pipes, fittings, valves, and fire pumps.
Costing and Budgeting: Preparing a detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM) that includes material costs, labor hours, equipment rentals, and subcontractor fees.
Vendor Management: Sending Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to suppliers, evaluating their bids for technical compliance, and negotiating prices to ensure the most cost-effective solutions.
Technical Proposals: Developing both technical and commercial bid packages, including compliance sheets, system design descriptions, and technical submittals for client approval.
Site Surveys: Conducting in office visits to assess existing conditions, access points, and potential installation challenges that could impact the final price.
Value Engineering: Identifying alternative materials or design modifications that reduce costs without compromising safety or regulatory compliance.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of fire protection systems (Wet/Dry, CO2, FM-200, Foam) and hydraulic calculations.
Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with standards like NFPA codes and local civil defense regulations.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering is standard.
