About The Role The Lead Engineer – Electrical Component at GE Vernova will serve as a pivotal technical expert responsible for the design and development of electrification solutions for high-voltage substations, particularly in EHV/HV segments. This role involves leading complex engineering activities, including system design, material selection, and project estimation, to ensure the delivery of efficient, compliant, and cost-effective solutions to clients. The individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including automation, civil, MEP, and project management, to facilitate seamless project execution from conception to commissioning.
The Lead
Engineer will also provide technical consultations to customers, ensuring that proposed solutions align with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements. This position demands a proactive approach to learning and adopting new renewable energy technologies and a robust capability to lead projects independently while managing stakeholder expectations.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited university. A minimum of 8 years of experience in designing EHV/HV substations is essential, with a comprehensive understanding of power system components such as transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
Experience in integrating renewable energy sources within substation designs is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are vital, along with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients worldwide.
Flexibility for global travel and a proactive attitude towards learning emerging renewable technologies are also required.
Responsibilities
- Design HV (Primary) systems for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substations, focusing on grid interconnection projects.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, including single line diagrams, layout plans, earthing layouts, trench layouts, and section drawings for overall plant and equipment control rooms.
- Perform earthing design, lightning protection, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination system design, and sag-tension calculations in compliance with IEEE/IEC standards.
- Evaluate and select all project-related equipment, ensuring specifications meet industry standards and project requirements.
- Prepare and review all distribution and auxiliary system designs, including LV/MV engineering for collector, unit, and pooling substations.
- Estimate BOQ, prepare tender drawings, and evaluate RFQs, ensuring optimal selection of equipment with competitive pricing.
- Coordinate with vendors for technical specifications, drawings, and calculations, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
- Collaborate with automation, civil, and MEP teams to ensure integrated project execution.
- Lead and coordinate site and office teams during project implementation, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
- Stay updated with global advancements in renewable energy technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into project designs.
- Ensure all designs and project activities comply with IEEE/IEC codes, safety standards, and environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members, providing technical leadership and project management support.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
