Turning drilling operations knowledge into detection scenarios, alarm logic and validated software output for AI drilling-safety software running on live rigs.
What we're looking for
- Drilling operations experience — minimum 5 years, hands-on. Drilling engineer, drilling supervisor, night pusher, company man, mud engineer or similar, with real well-delivery exposure. Deep working knowledge of well control, drilling programme design and mud hydraulics, and firsthand experience of kicks, stuck pipe, lost circulation and wellbore instability as events you have dealt with, not read about.
- Drilling software and real-time rig data. Working fluency with EDR / real-time drilling systems and WITSML feeds, MWD/LWD and mud logging data, and the pump, bit and hydraulics parameters behind them.
- Communication. Fluent, articulate English, written and spoken. Confident presenting, able to hold your own and land a point in technical discussion, and able to work in a structured way with people who have never set foot on a rig.
- Digital skills and fast learning. Genuinely interested in data and software tools, and quick to pick up unfamiliar systems. Scripting (Python),
SQL or BI/dashboard experience is a robust plus rather than a requirement — appetite and speed matter more here than an existing toolkit.
- Analytical and numerical strength. Comfortable reasoning in rates, percentages, trends and thresholds, and able to say what a set of numbers does and does not actually prove.
- Remote working. This role is fully remote: a reliable workspace, connectivity and the self-management to run your own week without supervision.
- Degree in petroleum, drilling or mechanical engineering, or a related field — preferred.
What you'll do
- Define and document drilling risk scenarios and the alerting logic behind them
- Set alarm thresholds and rank events by severity and operational urgency
- Validate software output against real operations and investigate false positives and negatives
- Support interpretation and labelling of real-time drilling data
- Shape dashboards and alerts from a drilling supervisor's point of view, and channel customer feedback into product requirements
