Role Lead DevOps Engineer / Kafka SME

Mission Architect and stabilize the VLT/Evo event-driven backbone, ensuring zero data loss and sub-millisecond latency within a Proxmox-hosted ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Cluster Architecture Design and deploy production-grade Apache Kafka clusters. Decide between bare-VM deployment or Strimzi Operators on OpenShift based on performance requirements.

High Availability & DR Implement multi-node clusters with optimized min.insync.replicas and acks=all configurations to guarantee data integrity across Proxmox host failures.

Security & Identity Enforce Encryption at Rest and TLS in-transit. Architect the integration with Keycloak for centralized authentication and implement ACLs for fine-grained topic access.

Performance Tuning Optimize JVM settings, segment sizes, and compression codecs (Snappy/Lz4)



to handle high-throughput telemetry from VLT devices.

Schema & Governance Establish and manage the Confluent/Apicurio Schema Registry to enforce data contracts between microservices.

Technical Requirements

Kafka Deep-Dive Expert knowledge of Kafka Core, Connect, and Schema Registry. Experience with KSQL or Kafka Streams is a major plus.

Infrastructure Proficiency in Strimzi (for OCP) or Ansible (for VM-based Kafka).

Linux Internals Deep understanding of disk I/O tuning, Page Cache, and networking (TCP/IP buffers) for high-volume messaging.

Security Practical experience with JAAS, SASL/SCRAM, and OAuth2/OIDC integration.
