A staff nurse in the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) department provides direct clinical care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, as well as general reproductive health care.

Prenatal and Antenatal Care
Check vital signs, weight, and collect blood or urine samples during prenatal visits.
Assist physicians with fetal ultrasounds and physical or pelvic exams.
Monitor fetal heart rates and the overall progress of the pregnancy.
Counsel patients on prenatal nutrition, fertility, and family planning.

Labor and Delivery Support
Prepare and sterilize the labor room, instruments, and emergency supplies.
Assist obstetricians and midwives during childbirth procedures.
Coach women through labor contractions, pain management, and breathing techniques.
Perform continuous fetal monitoring and report abnormal changes immediately.

Postnatal and Newborn Care
Monitor maternal vital signs and physical recovery in the postpartum unit.
Assess newborn vital signs,



measure weight and length, and perform initial screenings.
Educate recent parents on breastfeeding, diaper changing, bathing, and secure sleeping.
Administer initial newborn medications or vaccinations as prescribed.

Gynecological Care and Administration
Assist with minor gynecological procedures, annual exams, and cancer screenings.
Administer prescribed medications, intravenous (IV) fluids, and treatments.
Maintain accurate medical records, nursing notes, and patient charts.
Coordinate patient care plans with the wider medical team.
