Role OverviewThe Regiment is looking for a curious and motivated Backend Software Development Engineer Intern to join our remote team. You'll get hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services and APIs alongside experienced engineers.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to learn real-world backend development, work with production codebases, and understand how backend systems are actually built, tested, and shipped.

Key Responsibilities

- Help design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Work with Node.js, Express.js, and NestJS to build backend features.
- Write and optimize database queries using Postgres or MongoDB.
- Assist in implementing authentication and authorization flows (JWT, OAuth).
- Write unit tests to keep the codebase reliable and catch bugs early.
- Get exposure to Docker and CI/CD pipelines as part of the deployment workflow.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and daily standups.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers on end-to-end features.




- Debug issues, learn to read logs/traces, and understand server performance basics.

Requirements

- Basic understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript and how backend applications work.
- Knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) fundamentals.
- Familiarity with Node.js and Express.js (through coursework, projects, or self-learning).
- Basic understanding of databases (MySQL, MongoDB, or similar).
- Familiarity with Git and version control basics.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take feedback well.
- Valuable problem-solving attitude and comfort working in a remote setup.

Nice to Have

- Personal or academic projects using NestJS, Docker, or CI/CD tools.
- Exposure to unit testing frameworks like Jest or Mocha.
- Basic knowledge of JWT/OAuth-based authentication.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Any GitHub projects, hackathon work, or open-source contributions you can share.
