Job Summary

The Senior OT Staff Nurse is responsible for ensuring secure, effective, and high-quality perioperative nursing care. The role includes preparing the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anesthetists during procedures, maintaining sterility, supervising junior OT staff, ensuring proper documentation, and managing OT equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care
Receive and verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site before surgery.
Prepare patients physically and psychologically for surgical procedures.
Ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative period.
Assist in patient positioning according to surgical requirements.
Monitor patient condition and communicate any concerns promptly.
Operation Theatre Management
Prepare and maintain the OT before, during, and after surgeries.
Ensure strict aseptic and sterile techniques are followed.
Arrange surgical instruments, equipment, implants, and consumables.
Ensure all OT equipment is functional before procedures.
Coordinate OT scheduling for smooth workflow.




Surgical Assistance
Perform duties as Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse.
Assist surgeons during all surgical procedures.
Assist anesthetists during induction and recovery.
Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts before, during, and after surgery.
Ensure specimens are labeled and sent correctly to the laboratory.
Infection Prevention & Control
Adhere to infection control protocols.
Maintain sterilization standards.
Ensure biomedical waste segregation according to hospital policy.
Monitor OT cleanliness and environmental hygiene.
Documentation
Complete OT nursing records accurately.
Maintain instrument count records.
Record implants and consumables used.
Report incidents, complications, or equipment failures immediately.
Equipment & Inventory
Monitor availability of OT supplies and medications.
Ensure preventive maintenance of OT equipment.
