Summer Madras is looking for an Assistant Fashion Designer to join our team in Chennai.

We’re looking for someone with a strong design sensibility who can understand the visual language of Summer Madras and help translate it into thoughtful, commercially relevant collections. This is a hands-on role that will be involved across the design process — from initial seasonal research and concept development to fabrics, garments, trims and final product.

Key Responsibilities

- Research and develop seasonal concepts, mood boards and colour stories that are relevant to the Summer Madras brand identity.
- Translate seasonal concepts into fabric and garment design directions across womenswear and menswear.
- Develop original fabric designs, patterns, colourways and surface ideas, with particular attention to checks, stripes, woven structures and the use of colour.
- Design garments in line with the collection concept while considering silhouette, proportion, fabrication, wearability and commercial relevance.
- Create clear garment sketches and technical drawings in Adobe Illustrator to communicate designs to sampling and production teams.
- Research, source and select trims, buttons and other garment details appropriate for each collection.
- Work closely with our fabric, sampling, merchandising and production teams to take ideas from concept through development.
- Participate in fittings and sample reviews, document changes and follow through on design corrections.
- Maintain organised seasonal design files, presentations, development trackers and references.
- Support the wider creative needs of Summer Madras,



including collection presentations, photoshoots, lookbooks and other brand projects when required.

What We’re Looking For

- Degree or diploma in Fashion Design or a related field.
- Strong understanding of colour, fabric, garment construction, proportion and silhouette.
- A good eye for research, visual storytelling and creating cohesive seasonal concepts.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Tamil.
- Organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple developments and deadlines simultaneously.
- A strong work ethic,willingness to take ownership and ability to follow through on tasks.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, hands-on environment where the designer is involved from the first idea through to the finished garment.
