Reports To: Press Shop In-Charge / Production Manager
Job PurposeThe Power Press Operator will be responsible for operating mechanical power presses safely and efficiently to manufacture sheet-metal components as per approved drawings, samples, dies, specifications and production requirements.
The operator will ensure proper machine setup, die alignment, material feeding, production output and quality of components while following all prescribed safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities1. Power Press Operation
- Operate mechanical power presses for blanking, punching, piercing, bending, forming and other sheet-metal operations.
- Operate machines according to production plans and instructions from the Press Shop In-Charge.
- Maintain consistent production output without compromising quality or safety.
- Monitor machine operation for abnormal noise, vibration or other issues.
2. Die & Tool Handling
- Assist in loading, unloading and changing dies/tools.
- Ensure correct die selection for the required component.
- Check basic die alignment and ensure proper mounting before production.
- Handle dies carefully to prevent damage.
- Inform the Press Shop In-Charge immediately about damaged or worn-out dies.
3. Material Feeding
- Load and position sheet-metal blanks/strips correctly.
- Maintain proper feeding and alignment.
- Ensure correct material grade, thickness and size are being used.
- Prevent unnecessary material wastage.
4. Quality Control
- Inspect the first-off component after setup.
- Check dimensions and appearance using measuring instruments/gauges as instructed.
- Monitor components periodically during production.
- Immediately segregate defective/rejected components.
- Inform the supervisor if dimensions or quality begin to vary.
5. Production Records
- Record production quantity.
- Record rejected and defective quantities.
- Maintain basic machine/production records as required.
- Report machine downtime and reasons for stoppage.
6. Machine Care
- Perform routine cleaning and basic lubrication as instructed.
- Keep the machine and surrounding area clean.
- Check basic safety devices before operation.
- Immediately report oil leakage, abnormal vibration, unusual sound or other machine problems.
7. Safety
- Follow all factory safety procedures.
- Use required PPE.
- Never bypass or disable safety guards, interlocks or other safety devices.
- Never place hands inside the die area while the machine is operational.
- Follow proper procedures during die changes, adjustments and machine stoppages.
- Maintain a clean and obstruction-free work area.
- Required Experience2–5 years of experience operating mechanical power presses preferred.
- Experience in sheet-metal component manufacturing will be an advantage.
- Candidates familiar with blanking, piercing,
bending and forming operations preferred.
- Freshers with basic technical knowledge may be considered for junior positions.
Technical SkillsThe candidate should preferably be able to:
- Operate mechanical power presses independently.
- Understand basic die/tooling concepts.
- Identify common press-shop defects.
- Use vernier calipers, micrometers and basic gauges.
- Understand basic engineering drawings.
- Perform basic machine checks.
- Follow production and quality instructions.

Career ProgressionA capable operator can progress to:
Power Press Operator → Senior Press Operator → Press Setter → Press Shop Supervisor → Press Shop In-Charge
Salary₹15,000–₹25,000 per month, depending on experience and technical capability.
For an operator who can independently set up presses, change and align dies, troubleshoot common tooling issues and maintain quality, a higher salary may be justified.
Working ScheduleWorking Days: Monday to Saturday
Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
