Job Title: SCADA & Substation Automation EngineerPosition
Summary
We are looking for an experienced SCADA & Substation Automation Engineer to integrate, configure, test, and commission SCADA systems, remote telemetry, and substation automation solutions for power transformer monitoring and control applications.
The role will involve working with Digital RTCC panels, AVR relays, Tap Position Indicators (TPI), Smart Breathers, OTI/WTI temperature monitoring instruments, and fire protection systems, integrating field devices with utility SCADA networks, State Load Dispatch Centres (SLDC), and central control rooms.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in SCADA, substation automation, industrial communication protocols, electrical systems, and field commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- SCADA & Substation Automation IntegrationIntegrate Digital RTCC panels, AVR relays, and Tap Position Indicators into SCADA and Substation Automation Systems (SAS).
- Configure field devices, RTUs, gateways, and control systems as per utility/client specifications.
- Establish communication between transformer control panels, field equipment, and central monitoring systems.
- Communication Protocols & NetworkingConfigure and map industrial communication protocols such as:

- IEC 61850 – GOOSE & MMS
- Modbus RTU/TCP
- DNP3
- IEC 60870-5-101/104
- Configure communication between field instruments, RTUs, gateways, and master control stations.
- Troubleshoot RS-485, Ethernet, serial-to-Ethernet, managed-switch, and optical-fiber communication networks.
- Transformer Monitoring & TelemetryIntegrate transformer monitoring devices such as Smart Breathers, OTI/WTI, Digital NIFPES, and related instruments.
- Interface field signals with data loggers, SCADA systems, and centralized dashboards.
- Configure alarms, status signals, measurements, and telemetry points for transformer monitoring.
- HMI & SCADA DevelopmentDevelop and configure HMI/SCADA screens for:

- Transformer voltage monitoring
- Tap changer position
- Temperature monitoring
- Alarm indications
- Transformer protection status
- Ensure transparent and intuitive visualization of real-time operating parameters.
- Testing & CommissioningConduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Perform loop checking, signal verification, I/O testing, and protocol conformance testing.
- Commission SCADA and automation systems at electrical substations and utility/client sites.
- Verify communication and data exchange between field equipment and control centers.
- Troubleshooting & Technical SupportDiagnose communication failures, signal drops, telemetry latency, and network faults.
- Troubleshoot relay-to-gateway and gateway-to-SCADA communication issues.
- Provide on-site technical support during commissioning and system integration.
- DocumentationPrepare communication architecture diagrams.
- Develop I/O lists, signal mapping documents, and point lists.
- Prepare system configuration documents, testing reports, and technical manuals.
- Maintain accurate project and commissioning documentation as per client requirements.
- Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:

- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
- Instrumentation & Control Engineering
- CCNA certification/knowledge preferred or required as per project requirements.
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in SCADA engineering, substation automation, or transformer control-panel integration.
- Required Technical SkillsPractical knowledge of IEC 61850,
Modbus, IEC 60870-5-104, and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with managed switches, RS-485 networks, serial-to-Ethernet converters, and optical-fiber communication.
- Hands-on experience with SCADA/HMI platforms such as:

- Ignition
- Siemens WinCC
- AVEVA/Wonderware
- Proprietary utility SCADA systems
- Experience configuring RTUs, substation gateways, communication interfaces, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong understanding of power transformer auxiliary circuits.
- Knowledge of OLTC, voltage regulation, AVR systems, and protection relay logic.
- Preferred Skills & ExperienceExperience working on utility projects involving State Electricity Boards, TRANSCOs, DISCOMs, Power Grid, or large industrial substations.
- Hands-on experience with Digital RTCC programming.
- Experience in AVR relay logic testing and configuration.
- Familiarity with marshalling box wiring and signal termination.
- Experience with substation commissioning and utility communication testing.
- Ability to understand electrical drawings, control schematics, and communication architectures.
- Field RequirementsWillingness to travel extensively across India for client-site visits and commissioning.
- Comfortable working at electrical substations and industrial project locations.
- Able to work independently during site installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will be a technically strong SCADA/Substation Automation Engineer with practical field experience, good knowledge of industrial communication protocols, and the ability to integrate transformer control and monitoring equipment with utility-grade SCADA systems.
Experience: 2–5 years
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electrical/Electronics/E&I;
